Henry says goodbye to international football
French football is seriously in need of an expert striker as another chapter of passionate master football player is over for the French national team. After Zinedine Zidane, this is certainly another strong blow to the French Football Association, as one of their key performers has retired from the international football. Yes, we are talking about one of the greatest names of the French football Thierry Henry.
This might be not a right time for the star striker Thierry Henry to retire from international football largely due to the appalling situation in French football which is suffering from serious issues. After the disappointing exit from the world cup in South Africa, the French national team looks a little out of touch and out of mood to get back to their prime once again. Henry, who has scored the highest number of goals for his country, is aiming to play for the New York Red Bull in America’s domestic football league.
Thierry Henry has the best figures in European football without a shadow of a doubt. The thirty-two-year-old Frenchman has achieved the FIFA World Player of the Year award on two occasions. Henry has also played for Arsenal which is considered to be one of the best and richest football clubs in the English Premier League. He was the highest goal scorer for his football club and was a very strong striker for Arsene Wenger. He has scored 174 goals for Arsenal, making him the highest goal scorer for the club. Henry was no doubt one of the best footballers in European history largely due to the fact that he scored 226 goals for European clubs in different matches while playing for different platforms in the continent. After a very successful and leading time with Arsenal, Henry signed with Barcelona from 2007 to 2010 for a twenty four million Euro deal.
It has no doubt that the French national football team will not be able to get a striker, who has scored a bulk of 56 international goals for France. Thierry Henry has set an indelible mark among the young footballers of the world. But for a footballer like Henry, the entire World Cup campaign in South Africa was an unlucky one. In the 2010 World Cup, Henry made only two substitute appearances for his country. Experts predict that it could have been the reason of retiring from international football.
Henry confirmed his decision on the same day when he signed his new contract with the New York Red Bulls. The Frenchmen clarified that an early elimination from the World Cup 2010 was not the only reason for his decision. Henry added that he is not happy with the way the French team performed in South Africa and he is still unaware of the fact that what went wrong with his team during the mega-event. Talking about his new contract with the New York Red Bulls, he said that he loves the city of New York and it was his dream to play for the New York Bulls. The team management is even happier after signing such a performer but only time will tell whether the decision is right or wrong. On one hand, the disgraceful exit from the world cup was disappointing for Henry, but it is even more disappointing for the French Football Association after knowing about the retirement of their highest scoring football player. His lovers can only wish him and his national team the best of luck for the future.
