Henry to move to New York Red Bulls

It is said that when a player is heading towards the twilight of his career he usually heads to places like United States or UAE to play football and also make handsome money. When David Beckham made his move 2 years ago from Real Madrid to LA Galaxy many said he did it just for money, Beckham though insisted that money had little to do with it. Now the big money move is believed to be made by Barcelona star Thierry Henry, it is reported that the French Striker has signed a deal with New York Red Bulls and the club has announced on their official web site that Henry will be joining them in the next season.
There had been immense speculation for months now that Henry would head to United States to end his career, there had been several rumours linking Henry to various Clubs in the Major League Soccer.
Henry moved to Barcelona from Arsenal and since then has not had the best of times at Camp Nou. The front man was the centre of attention at Arsenal and when a team was put on the filed the tactics and formation revolved around him mostly. After an invincible season with the gunners in 2003-2004, Henry was not able to win any silverware for some time and European success had also eluded him. Hence, in search of European glory he made the big move to Barcelona. Things though did not go according to plan for him in Spain. Barcelona at that time had a number of big names who were a permanent part of the starting 11 and Henry found it hard to make his place.
Ronaldinho, who was at the top of his game those days, was still part of Barcelona, and up front Henry had to battle with Cameroon Striker Eto’o who had been the League’s top scorer for 2 consecutive seasons, and not to forget the emerging talent at that time Argentinean, Lionel Messi.
So as expected Henry warmed the benches for most of the season and even though he did win the Champions League with Barcelona that was his ultimate dream he said it was a hollow win for him as he did not feel an important part of the team.
The details of the contract have not yet been revealed to full extent, but the Red Bulls have confirmed that the French Striker is on his way to the United States. Club from big apple has said that Henry has signed a deal that will keep him at the club for a number of years and most probably will end his career in New York.
Henry will be named in the roster of Major League Soccer on Thursday, the 15th of July, that is when the window for international transfer opens. The club said that all the formalities have been completed and the certificate for his international transfer has also been cleared.
The chief of Red Bull soccer team Dietmar Beiersdorfer said that the club is overjoyed with the signing of a name as big as Henry, he added that Henry has been one of the most prolific and recognisable players for the last decade and a half and he would add immense value to their team. The team boss went on to say that a player of Henry’s calibre will help players around him to learn and grow in the game immensely.
Henry was also happy after making the move and said that this will start a new chapter in his career. Henry said that he has always played football for the love of the game, and it is the same reason he is going to United States. He said that he knows he will be able to help MLS grow and compete with European leagues.
