Welsh international player Gavin Henson, who is currently out from international rugby, is likely to be selected for the British and Irish Lions tour of Australia in 2013.
Former Scottish international player and President of the Scottish Rugby Union, Andy Irvine, who has been chosen to administer the tour by board, has also confirmed the news last night and said, yes he could be selected for the
tour but he would need to prove his form and fitness first.
Former rugby legend Andy Irvine spoke to media and said,
"He really needs to get his head sorted out and get into physical shape because he's been out of the game for a long time now. If he gets sorted he could potentially come into the reckoning again. He really has to show he seriously means business and that
rugby is his first priority."
Gavin Henson has not played any form of rugby since March, 2009. He had an injury last year which kept him out from rugby for more than a year. Moreover, now he has a contract with BBC and he is taking part in one of their shows,
which still keeps him out from rugby, even if he is fit to play.
The Former Ospreys player has also signed a contract with London based club, Saracens recently. His decision was prompted by his family, who is based in London and wanting to spend more time with them, decided to join a team closer
to home rather than stay with the Wales based Ospreys.
Henson, who has previously toured New Zealand with the British and Irish Lions in 2005, will start rugby after Christmas, as he is presently busy with the BBC. He will play his first match of the season on the 26th of
December against the London Wasps.
Welsh national team Coach Warren Gatland has also wanted to see Henson back in the team, especially after Wales’ poor performance in the recently ended Autumn Internationals. He said he would like to see him in the team in next
year’s Six Nations tournament.
Henson has a huge fan following and no doubt his fans will be very happy to see him in both the Welsh and British and Irish Lions squads again but this depends entirely on Henson now, to prove his form and fitness in the remaining
matches of the Aviva Premiership and impress Andy Irvine and Warren Gatland.
