What are the most effective oils that can be applied to dogs as flea/tick repellents? I've heard of Rosemary, lavender, lemongrass and cedarwood. Should I mix these together? Are there other oils that are effective? Thanks!

  1. Lavender, Lemongrass, Cedar Wood, yes. Do not mix them together. Just choose one. Mix 2 or 3 drops in a tablespoonful of very fluid base oil - like almond oil.

Observe the reactions in your dog, He/she may be allergic! Running nose and watering eyes or coughing and signs of distress in general would be a sign, and as you can't remove it after having applied it, go very easy at the beginning and observe closely. Allergies can develop at any time, even after you've used the stuff for a few months or years.

Never use essential oils on cats. They are deadly for cats.

Do not use Tea Tree Oil as suggested above. The dog is going to l**k the stuff and tea tree oil is toxic when ingested.

Make sure that the lavender oil you buy is NOT Lavendula Stoechas. There are about 5 or 6 different types of Lavender oil on the market and the one I mention is neurotoxic. One should never mention essential oils without their latin names.

    All the best!

  2. tea tree oil is said to be good.

Edit: i didnt know tea tree oil was poisonous.Sorry for the wrong information!!!
