Hercog/ Pervak, Begu/ Bogdan progress into the quarterfinals of the Grand Prix De SAR
In a first round match of the doubles draw at the Grand Prix SAR La Princesse Lalla Meryem at Fes, Morocco, Polona Hercog of Slovenia and Ksenia Pervak of Russia battled past the Russian pair of Alla Kudryavtseva and Arina Rodionova
in straight sets with a score line of 6-4, 1-6, 10-6.
It was an action-packed performance from both the teams presenting brilliant tennis skills for the Moroccan crowd at the Royal Tennis Club de Fes in Morocco. Kudryavtseva and Rodionova looked a little exhausted though as they finally
handed over the match to their opponents with a loss of five games. Kudryavtseva and Rodionova had a careless start to the match, dropping the first set to give an early advantage to their opponents.
After the first set loss, Kudryavtseva and Rodionova didn’t give up hope and made a terrific comeback in the second set with a breadstick before being eventually defeated by the winning pair with a loss of four games. The winning
pair broke their serves in the sixteenth game and emerged victorious in straight sets. The winning pair won 55 percent of total points in service and 41 percent of the total points in return. Furthermore they had a higher conversion rate of 75 percent as opposed
to their opponent’s 67 percent in breaking each other serves.
The winning duo will face Mervana Jugic-Salkic of Bosnia and Darija Jurak of Croatia in the quarterfinals of the tournament. They defeated the American pair of Lindsay Lee-Waters and Megan Moulton-Levy in straights sets with a
score line of 6-4, 6-0.
In another power packed performance during the day, the Romanian pair of Irina-Camelia Begu and Elena Bogdan moved past the French/Romanian pair of Alize Cornet and Ioana Raluca Olaru in three sets 5-7, 7-5, and 10-7 in the first
round of the doubles in Fes, Morocco.
Begu and Bogdan had perfect co-ordination throughout the match and didn’t lose the concentration even after the loss of first set. They entered the second with much more devotion and with the help of their defensive shots they
clinched 51 percent of the total points in the first set and 59 percent of the total points in the final set. Begu and Bogdan easily brushed past their opponents in three sets to stay on track for a meeting in the quarterfinals.
The winning pair will meet Russian/Kazakh pair of Dinara Safina and Galina Voskoboeva in the quarterfinals of the tournament. They defeated the Latvian/Australian pair of Liga Dekmeijere and Jessica Moore in the first round with
a double breadstick.
