If you invente a time machine and went forward in time. Would you travell with the planet as it moves? or would you find yourself in a different location in the future? What does the theory of relativity say about that? Does the theory of relativity address time travell?

  1. As time travel is in my opinion impossible and is purely fantasy so you can decide how it will work - your idea is as good as anyone else's. Einstein's theory only looked at the way time behaved if someone was able to travel at close to the speed of light - for example the twins paradox who aged at different rates.

  2. Hmmm.

Relativity doesn't actually address time travel as such - but, due to the extremely weird effects of time dilation, it is theoretically possible to travel forwards in time depending on how fast you travel.

Very, very roughly - if I travelled at close to the speed of light to Alpha Proxima and back and left you on Earth, by the time I returned you could be an old woman while I would still be in the prime of life. The faster anyone travels, the more time distorts, but only relative to an observer.

As far as whether you'd find yourself in the same spot on Earth - well, not if you somehow achieved FLT travel, unless you programmed your rocket ship coordinates to make sure you came back to the same place.

But, as far as anyone knows, it's not possible to manipulate time without involving motion so, no, your location wouldn't automatically be the same.

  3. I do not a time machine can be invented. Time is totally relative. It is a relative unit. The definition of one second is the lasting of one special physical process on our planet.

Therefore I think the travelling in time is completely hopeless. You must in a way leave the gravitation Field you live in and get into another where processes go on quicker. Einsteins says they  go on quicker in weak gravitation. But you will see the same slow story of the earth observing from the moon, while you get older quicker yourself. If you could stay on a heaver planet than the earth, then you will stay Young for long, when poor me here on earth grow older. But I cannot see you can travel in time. You cannot travel into the future of your own. Be patient, wait and see what happens.

May be I tell a little nonsense. It is a long time gone since I red the general relativity theory of Einstein.

  4. relativity doesnt address time travel. it addresses time dilation, which are two very different things. relativity doesnt touch on time travel, because according to it time travel is impossible. you cannot go backwards in time, and you cannot go forwards.

if you want to take relativity into account, i would say that youd stay where you were. because according to relativity earth could be stationary from out point of view. so if the earth isnt moving were going to stay in the same place.

  5. Going forward in time and going forward in space are two different things.

The theory of relativity merely says that time will stop when a particle reaches the speed of light

The theory does not permit anything to travel faster than light

  6. Didn't you see "The Time Machine"? Clearly the time machine stays firmly rooted to the Earth (the Morlocks build a fortress around it...). Maybe it works kind of like when you jump up, the Earth doesn't rotate beneath you because you're trapped in it's gravity well.

  7. u wont cuz the only thing that ll change would be the time... so what u cud do is stay in machine for 20 mins... n in the real world it ll be 20 yrs
