Question:

Here's something I've always wondered-?

Do different races have different physical features? If so, what are they? I just figured that there has to be a difference because different races have lived around different enviroments for housands of years, so they would've adapted. Try not to be rude just because I have asked a "stupid question". If you don't like the question, then I advise you leave. I'm tired of people being jerks just because they think I'm dumb or because they think that I have sided with someone/something they don't like. Honestly, would you appreciate it if I was rude to you just because you wanted to know something? Sorry about the ranting. Thanks for the answers (The nice ones, at least.).

  1. Well, the entire concept of race is based ONLY on differences of physical features - Skin color, eye shape, facial features, hair color and texture.

Race is not rooted in science.  It is rooted in politics.  However, it is useful to know ancestry and origins in population studies and medicine, and race provides convenient labels that most people agree provide that information in a meaningful but general way.

The 'differences' are unremarkable in the grand scheme of things.

  2. yes, so long  as they don't propogate outside of their gene group.   most physical variations are adaptive in response to climactic and environmental variations.   for example, lack of salt or "sugar" availability in the historical environment has produced groupings that are not able to effectively metabolize  the products, resulting in "racial" problems of high blood pressure in many african continent groups and diabetes in many native american groups.   as persons of these groups interbreed with persons of other groups, the metabolic potential changes.   if you combine different survival/non-survival  genes, you dilute the effectiveness of that gene and ultimately lose it.   fortunately, in today's world, there are few cosmetic physical variations that are truly critical to survival.

by the way, i don't believe i really need to get into a laundry list of racial differences, do you?

  3. The differences are pretty obvious. Does a Chinese person look like an aborigine?

  4. You are right my frnd different races do have different physical characters because they have lived and adapted according to a specific environment,i would just like to add to this, its not just the environment that decides the physical features of a particular race but more influncing is the genetic make up  that decides all the physical features and characters of race of a specy or a single individual like u and me.

I hope my answer would of some help to you, firstly i appreciate that u have questioning attitude keep it up no matter what the world think, this would help u to know world from a closure view

  5. This is a very interesting question - and one that is very difficult to answer honestly for fear of seeming racist.

Clearly there are different physical features - colour of skin, colour of hair, diffrent shaped heads, different shaped faces (e.g nose size, eye size etc.)

Do these differences extend beyond the simple look of someone? That's where the argument becomes very politically sensitive.

It is often put foward that people of black, and particular african origin do better ON AVERAGE in athletics (like running). Also, in the UK there are a lower level of black university lecturers than you would expect on a statistical analysis of the population.

Does this mean all black people are fast runners and all white people are brainy - of course not. The answer is deeply rooted in social and economic backgrounds and historical prejudice. However, it may be that physical make up does play a part.

  6. The pigment in human skin protects from too much ultraviolet light but enough ultraviolet light is needed to produce vital vitamin D (that affects the immune system, etc.).  Therefore there are three basic types of skin regarding sunburns.  African dark skin has the most melanin protective pigments due to proximity with the equator and maximum sunshine.  Mediterranean skin has less pigment but will develop a tan directly from exposure to the sun.  Scandinavian skin is very light because of the limited sunshine at higher latitudes (especially during the winter) and direct sun exposure reddens the skin first and any tan develops later after the sunburn heals.  Of course when races move to non-native latitudes they take their inherited (protective) pigmentation with them.  Dark skinned people may need to take vitamin D supplements (for strong bones) at higher latitudes.
