One women said that we have equal rights to men right now; what more do we want. So as a feminist what rights do you think we should fight for?

  2. There are still way too many who refuse to accept that women are human beings; that as many women as men are capable of a wide variety of things; that women have the ultimate right to their own bodies -- a host of other attitudes that have yet to change. There are still too many women putting up with sexual harassment. Heck, girls can't walk down the high school hallway without being sexually assaulted (groped in very personal places).

And there are still way too many who continue to stereotype men.

In addition, women's basic right to life, let alone all the other rights are not won.

  3. Western women have equal rights, but not equal treatment.  Social equality cannot be legislated, but change will come through raising awareness and education.  This is what we are trying to do.

Other women do not even have equal rights, and western women can support them in their quest for equality.

  4. The same rights that we have now, but women outside this continent do not. We should fight for them.

PROUD STEPFORD WIFE: I think they were looking for a new suggestion, not just an agreement. But thanks, anyway.

  5. I agree with the individual who mentioned women outside of the continent.

Aside from rights, I feel like there's still a lot to be desired on the basis of equality, especially on the topic of sports.  In gym classes, professional sports, etc, women are often expected to do significantly less than men.  I feel like there should be more options and opportunities for women to learn the more "manly" things, ie being able to fix cars rather than being conditioned to be the damsel in distress.

I think what I want is for everyone, regardless of race, gender, s*x, sexual preference, religion, etc, to receive the same amount of respect and dignity as everyone else.

However, for men, I'd work toward giving them more equality as well.  Women have so many clothing choices in comparison to men, and I feel like they're conditioned to express themselves in aggressive ways rather than creative ways.  Not to say that men should wear dresses, but to say that they shouldn't have their sexual preference put into question because of things they choose to wear.  I've seen more guys wearing eyeliner, which I suppose counts as some form of progress, or at least being more at ease to express oneself.

  6. Feminism is detrimental to the cause. Simply by having a feminist movement implicitly plays women out to be victims. If women are truly equal then they should prove it and not stand around DC holding signs.

  7. One lingering "right" that's periodically threatened, is the right to a D&C on demand.

  8. She is correct.  We do have equal rights to men now.  However, that doesn't mean women don't encounter discrimination...we still do, even today.  Additionally, even though we currently have equal rights, doesn't mean we always will.  Feminists need to stick around because if we don't, it's possible that some of our rights may be taken away.  For example, there are still a massive amount of people who think a woman shouldn't be able to control her own body, a.k.a. anti-choice people or "pro-lifers", as they call themselves.

For me, feminism is now about ending sexism and getting rid of gender roles...people should not face disadvantages because of their gender, nor should they be boxed in to a particular role in life.

  9. I think it's ridiculous to think that women's rights will be taken away.  Women have the same rights as men, and will continue to have the same rights.  As far as being anti-choice, I believe that has more to do with the killing of babies than it does with women's rights.

  10. Thats a view stereotypical anti-feminist female view....if it doesn't affect me, or help me why should I care???

It really is sad how selfish our country as a whole.

Women in developing countries are thrown in jail for being raped, are killed with no hope for justice as the law see it as just, are owned and sold like cattle, FGM .................come on it's not hard to see.

Here in developed countries the rights gained, need to be protected....think they will stay on there own?  women just got the right to equal pay in 1994...and it's still being challenged(was in the court like a month ago)

women still dont have full rights to the military

gender roles are still harming our young men and women

but if it doesn't effect me...who cares!
