Here is a question about mile per gallon?

when you see the car ads it said it you will get 35 mpg.on the freeway. Now the question is this, is that with one person in the car or with 4 people? does the mpg down with more people in the car, and what is the stander pounds of the person when they do the mpg of the car or truck.

  1. the heaver the car the more force is needed to get it going so your mpg will go down with more weight


  2. When the factory measures MPG, it is at the best optimum condition (1 person, flat terrain, no traffic, etc.)

    that is why most of us can NEVER get that factory estimate number in real life.

    Lately the government have been pushing to down grade that number a little because it is really unrealistic.  Some people even sell their old car thinking the new car will get 10 mpg more (based on factory estimate) and then find it gets no where near that in real life.

  4. Yeah, Optimal conditions probably don't even include back seats or a windscreen. These numbers are a reference only and are nearly always found to be false. Check the truth at Consumer Reports. They seem honest.

  5. The automobile companies determine the mpg based on tests. They have certain protocols for the test in order to find the STANDARD fuel economy. For instance, they will require that during the test the car keep 1 window open, passengers , 35 lbs.in trunk, etc. Visit your company's website for details
