What comes to my mind is "over generalization" and "umbrella". The fact that ESP, Big Foot, and Aliens are grouped together has always bothered me.

Ghosts usually come to my mind first when people mention the paranormal. I suppose it is just a common phenomena so with no other information you jump to the most common one.

When I think of the word "paranormal" I usually think of ghosts..but there are lot of other phenomena that are also considered to be paranormal. They say that the name "paranormal" is kind of an "umbrella" to cover all of these things. Here's the Wiki definition of paranormal:

Good question.  Personally I think of ghosts/spirits and psychic/ESP.  I realize there are many, many more categories that are classified as paranormal, but those two are my favorite.
