Question:

Here is my Wiccan situation.?

I have been studying Wicca for quite a while now but I have hit a road block. I don't feel experienced enough for ritual or spells yet. I am still in the studying stage.

Since I have been studying Wicca I feel completely different. In a good way. This is the path I want to pursue.

Here is the problem. My town doesn't have any covens and I don't have anyone to talk to about my Wicca. I have the internet and the library. I feel like I don't know how to move on.

The point is, I need some help. Whether it is like a Wicca 101 site or some advice of your own.

Please help me out! Thanks!

  1. Figure out what your specific questions are and ask them online.  You might get good answers here, but you'll have to put up with some abuse from the fundies too.  There's lots of Wicca forums online.  You'll need to experiment to find ones that suit you.  ( my recommendationsa are beliefnet.com and witchforums.net, although I haven't visited either is a couple years.)

Simply saying "I need help" or "give me advice" is not likely to net helpful answers.

  2. I haven't been wiccan for a LONG time, but i'm sure there are still wiccan forums around.  And don't worry about covens just yet, best to learn what the religion means to you....

Even though I don't practice Wicca, i'm fairly well versed in the ideals and rituals and whatnot, and I am still pagan (Heathen to be exact) so if you wish to contact me, feel free.  Perhaps I can help you find a wiccan forum to join, and I can certainly answer your questions.

EDIT: reread some of the answers, and yeah, witchvox, HOLY S**t  i haven't been to that site in YEARS WOW

  3. I was in the same situation. I stayed solitary and made friends when I moved to NM.  There I learned that if I didn't try, I never would progress. So I started simple and expanded from there. I always write down my results good or bad so I can go back over what I might have done wrong. It is not an exact science nor an exact methodology to the spells and rituals. Just stick to the basics to begin with. The Deities are not concerned about perfection, only what it right for you. How long have you been studying? If I might also ask, how old are you? You can send me an email if you wish, I will get back to you, but not always right away. Hectic schedule with the newspaper I work for.

Blessed Be.  PS Still a solitary, by choice and now, once again, necessity!

  4. A lot of solitaires hit that point, you are certainly not alone.  I suggest trying a few simple spells.  Also celebrate Mabon, reflect on what you have learned through your studying and consider it the real beginning of your life as a Wiccan.

    Blessed Be

  5. Have you looked at the site:  www.witchvox.com yet?  It is a national site that can give you info of the closest open covens in your area, as well as chat sites, etc.  There are lots of Yahoo! Groups out there for solitaires who still want to have come contact with others.  Is there a Unitarian Universalist society or church in your town?  If so, there may well be pagans among them, maybe even a coven.  Most covens don't advertise themselves, so you wouldn't know about them unless you were 'plugged in' to the pagan scene in your locale (assuming there is one, of course).

Feel free to email me directly if you want to talk or have questions.  I am a pagan minister, and have been for about 5 years.  I have been pagan and a UU for 14 years.

  6. I have the same situation. Continue studying and become a solitary, like me. You can also start your own coven.

No one says you need a coven to be a Wiccan.

    Good luck

  7. here's a very good site where you talk with like minded pagans:

    http://www.mind-n-magick.com

they boot fundies real quick as well :)

  8. Are there any health food stores in your area?  Maybe post a sign on their bulletin board & see if there's anyone who's been keeping quiet?

  9. That's the problem if you don't start right off doing rituals and spells (even simple ones) is eventually you become an 'armchair occultist.' ACT.

  10. You have to be able to ask more specific questions than just, I dont know where to go, or Im stuck.

Also, I have something of a problem out there with the people who try and make Wicca out to be some sheer inherited ancesteral thing and look down upon those out there who are solitaries as if they are somehow better because they found a coven.

If you care more about a group of people than you do your gods, I dont think you truly understand what it means to be Wiccan in the first place.

Not that covens are bad, but being a part of one is not what defines one as Wiccan.

Dont become so attached to the idea of having to have a group of people around you that you forget about whats really important in the end.

Imagine if you were living alone on a desert island, no way to get off it. There is obviously no coven for you there. There is just the trees, and the birds, and the water, and the earth, and the sky.

The circumstances of our lives are here to teach us things. Sometimes wise learned teachers are put in our paths, and other times,

we are forced to make our way alone.

But there is no rule or law that says you

must have some self proclaimed better than

thou art fancy smancy titled person tell

you that you can practice your religion.

    Oaths are ultimately between you,

and your gods. Not you, and some man

    or woman.

  11. The "secret" to advanced teaching is not to find a coven or an advanced book, but to find a tradition.

Seriously. It's sort of like studying linguistics. You might start studying with the basic grammar and structure of your own language, then how languages in general are formed, but at some point you're going to want to pick a language to focus your studies on.

    I do recommend the 101 at http://wicca.timerift.net

After that, however, I recommend going through the traditions at http://www.witchvox.com/xtrads.html and finding a tradition that doesn't lie, doesn't claim to be ancient or attack other traditions out of hand and doesn't charge money.

Once you find one that believes as you do, ask them for local contacts, mailing lists and websites.

If your only connection with a coven is that it is local, you may be in for disappointment.

  12. Wicca itself is an oathbound mystery religion that involves initiation into a lineaged coven... but there's another religion based on outer-court Wiccan information - sometimes referred to as "Neo-Wicca" or "Eclectic Wicca" - that I imagine you are referring to.

There's a yahoo group called "Amber and Jet" that may be of help to you. It's about Wicca proper rather than eclectic stuff, but yeah, it's a decent mailing list.

Otherwise, the only website I can really recommend is Wicca for the Rest of Us.

If you're looking for a coven, either traditional or eclectic, you might want to check out the Witches' Voice, aka Witchvox

  13. http://www.witchvox.com/

That one is supposed to be good. I'll star this so my Wiccan contacts will see this.

  14. spiraldance by starhawk or wicca by scott cunningham.

  15. Try www.cauldronliving.com

There are online covens available; as well as a wealth of information for all Wiccans and Pagans.
