Here is my home theater system. Will a self powered sub work well?

My theater system-Link: http://electronics.pricegrabber.com/home-theater-systems/m/51825688/details/

The amp in this receiver isn't that strong and won't push my sub well. There is an extra sub out-put on the receiver so I want to connect a good SELF POWERED sub using a subwoofer cable so that I can optimize the self powered sub to it's fullest with it's built in amp. Will this work out for me? Look at the link. Thanx!

  1. Any powered sub will work. I just bought a Klipsch sub 10 and I love it.  Bought it at best buy for $400.  I have it on the second floor of my house and I can feel it in the basement.

  2. The words SELF-POWERED-SUBWOOFER means it is a pre-amped sub BUT since the sub still gets louder as you turn up the system it has to be stealing SOME watts from your system but i would say if you have the bass turned up on the sub itself you should see some real improvement,

  3. You can connect any self powered sub-woofer via the RCA input on the sub from your receiver output. My recommendation, if you can afford it, Veldyne, PERIOD. If you can't afford anything extravagant then consider multiple smaller, cheaper subs. I myself have the second option and, although its not earth-shaking, it is more than adequate for my set-up. Bottom line: there is such a thing as too much bass but that has to be an awful, awful lot to be too much so my advice is get as much bass as you can afford and add more later, if you have to.
