LFPG 280430Z 30003KT 0300 R27L/P1500.

So this means (in terms of the visibility: runway 27L at 1500 ft, or 1500m)? Big difference.

  1. RVR is only measured in feet in the US.

In Europe, the 1500 does indeed mean RVR is greater than 1500 meters.

This is a cue for some operators as to what type of approach they can attempt.  1500m equals a Cat 1 (typical) approach.  Anything below that might signal a Cat II or Cat III might be required, and those require special training and authorization to conduct.

  2. RVR is always measured in metres. The 'P' means 'plus' and is interpreted as 'more than'... so the RVR is 'more than 1500m', ie. LVP not required and it's a hint that you can do a cat 1 approach.

  3. Last I checked RVR was in feet, making it 1500ft
