People buy a new vehicle, it has new tires. 20,30,40,000 miles later, they put on a new pair. what happened to ALL of the old tire tread, and where did it literally disappear to?

Or, are we literally breathing the dust of 500,000,000,000,000+++ tires?

These tires all lost 1/2 of tread over the last 75 years and its gone somewhere, is it in the earth, the air or...our lungs?

  1. They haven't been made yet.

    500 TRILLON tires? LOL.

But all that dust just gets dispersed into the soil. You're not breathng it, you're eating it!

  2. Most of the worn tread is found along the side of our roads as microspheres of rubber. These break down with time.

As for breathing rubber dust - well most dust is human skin, so you're really sucking in all your friends and relatives, one cell at a time.

  3. most tires get reused or melted to make new tires, the lose tread that is visable on the highways gets picked up and taken to the city landfills.
