hello,

i am an arab american girl and i currently live in the US but i speak arabic fluently (in addition to english and french)

anyhow I LOVE the emirates

but everyone tells me it's not a good idea for me to leave the united states and work in dubai right now because i don't have a significant work experience

i am a business management and marketing major and will graduate in a few months.. i have managed a restaurant for like 3 years and i have a couple internships of 2-4 months in market research and as a bank teller

so i was wondering if i should just stay in the US until i make a few years of experience in a real job??

and is it a good idea anyway ?

I mean the economy in america is not good at this time...and i really like the emirates

in short can i get a good job with a good salary with what i have so far or should i wait a couple more years ?

  1. That's not a bad idea that u want to be in emirates. Anyways to find jobs u can see:

  2. Hi,

please be aware of the following: hiring staff costs a company a lot of money because they pay the Airfare, all labor and visa related costs and mostly when hired from aborad also housing and transportation.

Therefore you'll find many well educated Asians (Indians, Philippinas etc.) in your field. As educated as these people are, they are satisfied with a third of the salary that you would expect and this is the reason why a local company for a job of your discription may hire an Indian or Philippina before you. They will cost less.

Americans/Westeners make good money in the UAE being specialized in certain fields in higher positions or being employed with American/Western companies. I know it sounds crazy, but you will not find an American working here as a bank teller and also not being a manager of a restaurant unless this restaurant belongs to one of the big hotels.

Also when the American economy is not doing so well right now, in the US you have your home, your friends, pay much less rent and have social welfare if needed. Well, you do have to pay tax, but be sure that you pay less tax than you would have to pay rent in Dubai.

Said all this, you should come and visit Dubai first. Look at Dubai from a resident's view and not through a tourist's eyes.If you then still want to make this step, your chances are better the more experience you have.

Take care and all the best.

  3. dubai is very very very competitive and it is booming, if you are not doing well in your job you will get fired, jobs with zero experience pay nothing.

if you are looking to work there, go to www.bayt.com and www.monstergulf.com, post your cv and specify where you want to work (industry and city), you should get some calls as international firms look at these website to hire after head hunting.
