We only get one ultrasound at around 4 or 5 months pregnant.

but do you think i could ask my doctor to get me an ultrasound sooner? because i had a D&C on my first pregnancy because of a miscarriage, and i don't want to be worried all the time, i want to know if the baby is okey, so i dont have to worry, do you know what i mean?

also our first doctor appointment is no sooner then 10 weeks.

  1. sure you can explain your worries to your doctor and tell her(or him) that you'd feel more comfortable if you have one sooner .

  2. ask him if he says no make up an excuse . like constant pain in the pelvic . worked for me but it is normal to worry ,that is what a  good mother does

  3. A lot of insurances only cover one ultrasound and thats why they only schedule you for one. But if you talk to your doc and he thinks there is a serious reason for an earlier one then he can get your insurance to approve it then they will prolly do one. Or if you are able to pay for that second one then he might do it. I would talk o your doctor and see what he says. But i got an early ultrasound b/c i didnt know how far along i was and an ultrasound is the best way to find out. So if you havent seen the doc yet you could maybe try that.

    good luck

  4. If your insurance won't cover an earlier ultrasound, you may have to pay out of pocket for it. They like to do one around 20 weeks to do measurements and make sure the baby is growing and developing properly. Plus, you'll get to find out the s*x then! Talk to your doctor about though. If you're hearing the heartbeat and everything though, try not to worry as much.

  5. If you're having concerns over miscarriage and such, the doctor will probably share it as well and get you in for one anyway, just to be safe. As long as there's a medical reason for an ultrasound you'll get as many necessary, so you'll still get your routine 20 week ultrasound.

    Congratulations =]

  6. I only got one ultrsound with my first pregnancy and I had fears like you.  But really there is no need to have more.  It can actually not be good for the baby to have too many.

  7. the reason that you don't get an ultrasound before 16-20 weeks is because the chambers of the heart and other vital organs aren't visible enough on the ultrasound to let you know that things are okay. you will get to hear the baby's heartbeat before the ultrasound and you will hear it at every visit so you will know he/she is okay.

  8. If you are in a country with socialized medicine, you may need to pay for it out-of-pocket, but there's certainly no harm in asking.

    I think that's a legitimate medical reason to request an early ultrasound.

  9. there is no harm in asking and voicing your concerns, sorry for your 1st loss, all the best for the future

  10. You don't need more than one ultrasound.  Actually, there's not necessarily much reason to routinely get any ultrasounds without a medical reason; they haven't been shown to overall increase outcomes.  When you go in for your doctor's appointments, they'll listen for the heartbeat.  If you hear that, you know your baby is still alive.  All an ultrasound will tell you is that at that one moment in time, your baby is okay, and the heartbeat will tell you the same thing.
