I registered on this d**n site (since our instructor recommend that it was the best site to put our portfolio on) paid around 6-7 bucks to get a name, then pay around 30 bucks to get a my portfolio site hosted FREE (or something) and now, apparently i need to fork out some more dough to get a full package just to get that annoying godaddy.com banner ad out of my page. F*** them and their un-user friendly site. I swear, every time I go on that site I spend more time looking at the HELP center more than anything and I think they love to have a confusing site so that less web savy ppl like me can mess up and buy some sh.i.t. i dont even need. (which happend before)

Sorry for the rant but heres my question. Do any body know how to get that stupid banner ad removed? I know its possible b/c i think my friend was saying something about changing some of the html/css around and her site was able to get it off.

Also my subscription will end next yr in march and if you guys have any GOOD hosting sites i can try with a DECENT price plan and a EASY navigation through their site then it would be truly helpful to me. thanks.

  1. godaddy is a little bit cheaper but bluehost is the best one

    http://www.bluehost.com/track/bluehostwe...

  2. Unfortnately I don't have any experience with godaddy. So I recommend contact their support team. However if you want to start your website I recommend purchase your domain and hosting together. In this way it is possible to get your domain for free. Some hosting services offer this gift today.

    One of these services is reachable at: http://bluehost-service.atspace.com . Their service is really great and easy to use.

  3. I also had  bad experience with godaddy web hosting , you can check review of top ten web hosting sites at website like http://aplis.net/ .

  4. Yeah they are not for everyone. Most those with no clue about running a web site. Check out the article listed. It applies to hosting any site really.

    Regards,

    Glenn

  5. I think the same, try this domain and this hosting:

    http://www.co.cc/

    http://www.000webhost.com/

    Both are free by the why!

    Hope I helped you!

  6. My friend runs this web hosting service, I think you'd be really happy with it...  http://constant-hosting.com/support/aff.... if you use "saurus" as the Promotional Code while purchasing the hosting service, you can get 10% off.

    It's cheap, really easy to use, and he is really responsive and will personally help you resolve any issues.  Not to mention, he has free hosting requiring only a domain name, which you apparently already paid for.  I really recommend it over the sites in the other answer.  Constant Hosting is much better quality.

    As to the banner issue, you should be able to hide it using CSS.  First, use the source to find out the ID or any other way to reference the banner.  Then use CSS to hide it (set display: none).

    Let's say the banner is using a <p> tag... then do

    <style type="text/css">

    p {display: none;}

    </style>

    That will make it disappear.
