Heriberto Ruiz wants a rematch with Rey Bautista after losing the bout – Boxing news
The Mexican professional boxer, Heriberto Ruiz, after getting defeated by the Filipino national featherweight contender, Rey Bautista said that he was robbed of a victory and that he wants a rematch against the 24-year-old as soon as possible.
The two featherweights were face to face in their 12-round bout for the IBF International Featherweight title on June 11, 2011 at the Cebu City Waterfront Hotel & Casino in Cebu City, Philippines.
Ruiz lost the unanimous points decision fighting against Bautista. The time was 0:56 of the seventh round when the referee called the bout off.
Ruiz and his team are disappointed to lose the decision. The two fighters were competing under the main event of Pinoy Pride 6.
Ruiz’s interpreter Michael Lopez said, “He felt he got robbed. He said this would have never happened in Mexico and that he wants a rematch there.”
Bautista was injured during the fight as his right eye was bleeding due to a severe cut. There was an accidental head clash in the third round and as a result, his left eye was also damaged.
A disappointed Ruiz manager Fernando Dominguez said if they want to have a rematch then Ruiz is ready to return. He said that his boxer can go against Bautista anywhere in the world.
However, it has been made clear to everyone by the IBF supervisor Ray Wheatley that the right decision was taken to decide the winner.
Wheatley said, “It was a great fight, an extremely fit fight. Boom-Boom clearly won the fight. Unfortunately, some fans can’t understand the rules, the fight was stopped due to Boom-Boom’s cut and if a fight is stopped after four rounds due to a cut caused
by accidental head-butt, then we have to go to the scorecards.”
The Ruiz camp and his fans were not convinced with the decision as they were shouting at the time when Bautista’s hand was raised as the champion.
