Hermann Tilke clears speculation over delay of Austin circuit construction for 2012 – Formula 1 news
Hermann Tilke says that the Austin circuit in Texas is right on track for the 2012 Grand Prix.
Designer of the track Tilke believes that there will be no schedule issues and dismissed any suggestion that the work was lagging behind schedule. Speculation around the United States Grand Prix venue came to the forefront in India during the Grand Prix,
and some sources revealed that Formula 1 boss Bernie Ecclestone had told that he had some reservations towards the venue’s hosting for 2012.
Ecclestone though later cleared the air and said that his reservations were due to issues inside the promotional company attached to the project than the track being ready in time for the Grand Prix event. But that did not stop the very noticeable lag in
the progress of the building.
However, the venue received the go ahead for the construction work on five major buildings including the main grand stand and pit buildings.
Tilke also mentioned that he is quite happy with the progress he has seen, “We are working on it,” he told Autosport.com. “There are a couple of hundred workers on the site, a lot of machines, and everything is on schedule up to now.”
He said that he was excited about Austin track, which he believes is going to benefit with the same mix that made the Buddh International Circuit in Indian that made it such a big hit.
“In Austin we have had the advantage that we have some natural elevation and some hills which we could use,” he explained. “It is going to be very fast.”
The Austin circuit is due to inaugurate next November 2012, and 2013 will see a new circuit added in the United States which is being built in New Jersey. It will be a street circuit which has received quite the media attention ever since it was being planned.
Tilke said that even though he had limited design scope for the New Jersey track because it is in the city, he still believes that it is bound to be a good addition to Formula 1.
