Okay. We got hermit crabs about a month and a half ago. I have been keeping their container moist and giving them food and water. Today, the smallest crab was not buried, but in top of the soil. Half way out of his shell and all white except for one leg... What is this!? Somebody Answer please!

  1. if you poke it and it doesn't go back in its shell then its probably dead

    sorry =[

  2. He is probably molting as the other person said, you should place him in an extra moist cage with moist coconut fiber substrate and seperate it if there are others.  Although there is the chance he is dead, if it smells like old fish, then that is the case.  They usually don't come put of thier shell, so I'm sorry that he is probably dead.  Also try spritzing it with warm water, if it's not dead, he will become active

  3. he could be molting.

  4. A hermit crab is a crustacean right? Wait, are crustaceans reptiles? I don't think so. You just don't know which subcategory to put your question in right? Then why not just use the Pets - others? That's what those categories are for I think.

  5. yes he is dead poor thing

  6. He may be molting.

    If not than take a sniff, if he smells reall nasty than u lost him.

    I am so sorry but also to make sure leave him there for one more day just to make sure.
