I am getting a few hermit crabs and I was wondering where you get your shells. I am not interested in Painted shells, though.

  1. I find shells cheaper than Petco and Petsmart charges at my local flea market randomly. Sometimes they even give my them free because no on really buys them. I also find shells in bulk packages (that contain other shells but still cheaper than the pet stores) at some stores like Big lots, Walmart, and Michaels. But make sure though, that you rinse and boil the shells before putting them in your enclosure.

  2. petstores. or if youre going to the beach or live there, the beach!

  3. umm id your near the beach go down there and collect a few. the round opening the crabs like better and make sure to get some a bit bigger and even a couple a touch smaller than your crabs as they like to change shells to see if they fit better or not.

also you can pick them up on ebay and other online shops, and the place where you are buying them from should have them. more pet shops are selling hermit crab accesories too so check out your local petshops.

but with all my shells no matter where i get them i make sure there are not holes in the shell, as this will dehydrate and kill your hermit crab if they change into that shell. i also wash them all out with a salt water soloution just to make sure they are clean and dry them in the sun.

    good luck with your crabs!

  4. You can usually purchase shells at any pet store, thats where I got my extra ones.

  5. you can buy them for about $3.00 each at most petstores, a little expensive but you should get a couple at least depending on how many crabs you are getting, 1 bigger shell and 1 a little smaller shell for each crab should be fine.
