Hermit Crab?

Question

Should i get a Big or little hermit crab and have any ideas of anything i need for my hermit crab? (i have a tank,stones, water, food).Im going to petsmart by the way.

I suggest a small hermit crab, and more than one so that they can socialize a little. You need a sponge in the water bowl also.

I keep both large and small crabs. Personally I like larger ones because they tend to be less timid, easier to find, and they moult less frequntly.

You will need more then one crab. They cannot be kept in isolation

Don't use stones for substrate please use sand or coconut fibre and make sure you cook it or make it up in boiling water. Hermit crabs need to moult and rocks are hard to dig in.

Pet store hermit crab food is packed with toxic prevervatives it's cheaper and safer to feed table craps. Fruits, veggies, egg shells and some meats. They LOVE natural peanut butter.

make sure you have salt and fresh dechlorinated water avaliable. And never by painted shells

You should buy a small hermit crab because when their young you can easily tame them.  Plus you have to buy small and big shells to put in your tank because when the hermit crab grows, the crab can move into a new shell. The cool thing about hermit crabs is that you can paint their shells in exotic patterns. Also, you can take them out the tank to play with them.

If your new to crabbing, get a little crab

Depending on your tank size, a little crab is ideal. Large crabs need to be kept in at least a 20 gallon tank. Here are sizes.

Little crabs are'nt as destructive and it don't hurt if they pinch, although when I started crabbing I got 2 medium crabs, I have handled small crabs plenty of times Here is my list of supplies I own

1   29 Gallon tank

4   1/2 Inches of play sand

1    Very large hut

2 water dishes

1 food dish

4 pieces of wood to climb on

1 climbing background

1 thermometer

1 hygrometer

5 extra shell ( I get more every month)
