My friend brought be a Hermit Crab from Florida and its in a Hermie hut with a couple extra shells, and the spongs, and sand with shells. Should I upgrade to a tank? What all should I put in it? And should there be a little cup of water?

I just need some info about them, to keep it alive.

  1. Unfortunately, most of the habitats that hermit crabs come with aren't nearly big enough for them to be happy little crabs.  I would consider a 10-gallon aquarium the minimum for a crab (or a pair of them) to br happy and healthy.  You'll need a substrate (such as sand) deep enough that they can dig in, and some things for them to climb on, like rocks and driftwood.   Some people like sponges rather than water, some like just water.  Really it doesn't matter which you choose.  If you prefer a sponge, just make sure it's always clean because it's a lovely home for bacteria.  If you want a dish of water, just make sure it's shallow enough that your crab can't drown in it (it's happened before!).  If you want more info, here's a great site about hermit crab care:  http://www.hermit-crabs.com/care.html

    Good luck with your crab!!
