my hermit crabs got into a fight (a shell fight) and one died, and i had one.well my hermit crab crawled ontop of his heat rock, and COOKED HIMSELF ALIVE!!!I FEEL HORRIBLE!!!=[

i went to pick him up, and he just fell out of his shell, and a bunch of brown liquid came out.i cried.i felt bad for puting that rock in there. but now im kinda creeped out by the situation,

if i buy a heet lamp, would this be better? because i know i cant buy a pad, because the sand, and the glass tank n all.

also...do you think i would be cappable of buying a few small hermy's,and starting fresh?

Note:when the 2 got in a fight they where in my moms care:i was in the hospital for 4 months, but when i came back a few days later thats when the other one died.

what do you think?

  1. Hermit crabs don't need that just a low watt bulb like 50 watts. Sand and a natural sponge for them to drink. I would go ahead and start over. Ask the pet store about the fighting I never had that prob.

  2. Oh god, I hate heat rocks. I don't even know why people make them.

I'm not experienced with sand in tanks, but what about flexwatt or heat tape work? How come you can't use an undertank heater? I'm not too fond of bulbs as the only source of heat, because they would have to be left on all day and night and that wouldn't be natural.

  3. so sorry! even loosing a hermie can be devastating. you dont need a heat anything. they do not need any heat. hope you get better.

    sorry! :-)
