Hernandez insists that he is not the new Solskjaer
Manchester United’s summer acquisition Javier Hernandez is rapidly earning himself a reputation as a super sub. He scored United’s winning goal in the 2-1 victory over West Brom after coming on from the bench in the second half. The goal was the striker’s
fifth for the club in twelve substitute appearances, drawing comparisons to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. The Manchester United legend scored an astounding 28 goals after coming on as a substitute during his time at Old Trafford.
Hernandez though, is playing down the comparisons to the legendary Solskjaer, saying that he still has a long way to go before he can achieve such a status. Speaking to the club’s official website, the Mexican international said,
“It's great to hear and it's good motivation for me, but I know I need to work a lot to be like him. The win (against West Brom) was very important. We knew it would be difficult but we're very happy because we've started the year with a victory. I remember
I was near the goalkeeper, Wazza (Rooney) crossed the ball, I moved towards it and headed it into the goal. It was nice to celebrate in front of our fans.”
Javier Hernandez signed with Manchester United in April this year, just before the start of the FIFA World Cup in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/South-Africa-c757. Buying the player before the tournament was considered by many to be a risky move; however, Hernandez thoroughly impressed at
the World Cup, and even scored two goals for his country. He made his debut for the club in July when he came on from the bench in a friendly against MLS-All-Stars. The diminutive striker scored just 18 minutes later, proving that Sir Alex’s faith in him was
not misplaced.
Hernandez’s goal against West Brom on Saturday was vital for Manchester United’s title ambitions this season. His header ensured the three points for the Red Devils, consolidating their position at the top of the Barclays Premier League. Hernandez’s performances
might earn him a place in the starting eleven, but if 'Chicarito' continues to score after coming on as a substitute, Sir Alex might just consider keeping him on the bench.
