Manchester United’s Javier Hernandez feels that playing in the Europa League is going to be a little weird, but knows that the Red Devils can easily win the contest.
United were knocked out of the Champions League in the group stages, after the team went on to finish in the third spot in their group. With Benfica and Basel taking over the top two spots, United were dropped out of the contest and into the Europa League.
The Reds Devils are now going to taking on Ajax, in their first ever Europa League game and most of the team is already looking to pick up a win in the game, as they look to kick things off with a bang.
Javier Hernandez believes that going into the game United have the advantage, as they are going to be playing the second leg at home and this would allow them to compensate for any lapses, which could surface in Amsterdam.
Despite that fact, the Mexican believes that United are more than likely to win the game, given their mentality and experience in European competitions.
Hernandez is quoted to have said: "Playing at home in the second leg is important but it’s only a small advantage – it doesn't guarantee victory”
“It’ll be a difficult game but we’ll go to Amsterdam looking to win.”
The striker then admitted that playing in the Europa League was a little strange, since the team was so used to playing in the Champions League. However, he feels that the team’s fans would welcome the addition of another European trophy to the cabinet at
Old Trafford, irrelevant of what kind of trophy it is.
He then went on to add: "The Champions League is the best competition in Europe and it’s a bit strange to be in the Europa League. But we want to win every tournament we enter. Both teams have a lot of history in Europe, so it should be a great game."
Given how poorly United performed in the Champions League this season, the team is going to be looking to go all out in the Europa League, as they are being hailed as one of the favourite to win the competition.
