Hero Women’s Indian Open: Pornanong Phatlum looks to repeat past performance
Thai Pornanong Phatlum
has a solid chance of capitalising on her impressive victories in the upcoming Hero Women’s Indian Open 2012, slated to be staged from November 30th to December 2nd, at the DLF Golf & Country Club, New Delhi, India.
Phatlum is one of the hot favourites for the three-day tournament, given her stunning performance that saw her rack up titles at the 2008 and 2009 edition.
In order to repeat her past performance, Phatlum will have to outrival stars like Swedish Caroline Hedwall, who is ready to defend her title, and English Laura Davies—the 2010 champion of
the prestigious tournament.
There are a plenty of experienced LET contenders lined up for action at DLF Golf & Country Club, which will make it hard for the past winners to do their best and any player can come on top
in the end.
However, Phatlum is strong enough to subdue her rivals and she can put her trust in her capabilities. The Thai golfer has got a decent record at the tournament and might dominate the leaderboard
if she holds her nerve till the final moment.
Observers have also said that the three-round battle will be full of hype and passion, as most of the contenders taking part have done well not only on the LET events, but also on the LPGA
Tour.
The first event of the tournament, held in 2007 at the same course, saw current world number one Yani Tseng grab a title. On the other hand, Europeans are also hot favourite for the title,
as Laura Davies and Caroline Hedwall have shows that they can be hard to beat if they perform their best.
Observers said that Davies is being singled out as the most explosive contender for the tournament, as she has vowed to end her LET victory drought this year.
Davies may not be as agile as young guns, but the 49-year-old star is among the few veterans still playing pro golf both on the LET and LPGA Tour.
“I have won a great many tournaments. I know how to win. Experience counts a lot in golf,” Davies was quotes as saying in one of her interviews.
