Heroes gods and monsters of the greek myths?

What did the Greeks know about identity, freedom, responsibility and love? Are heroes, gods and monsters still part of our thinking today?

They knew a lot.  One must read their stories to understand what they knew about these things.  These themes are intertwined in many of their myths.  As for heroes, gods and monsters, they are still part of our thinking today - just look at the olympics, organized religion and all the recent brouhaha over "big foot".
