  1. if u have an out break of herpes at the time u deliver your baby then your child will be more at risk of getting herpes. as the previous poster listed u should tell your doctor about this at your next appointment. there are some medications that are safe to take for herpes out breaks during pregnancy (check out babycenter.com for that). most women with herpes will have their doctor recommend a c-section to them in order to prevent herpes being passed onto your baby.

how ever if there is no sign or symptoms of an out break at the time of delivery and u are taking your medication then there should be less risk of your baby contracting herpes from u.

  2. The best thing to do for yourself AND the baby is consult with your doctor... I'm sure he or she would appreciate your concern with your baby's health so give him or her a call.

But anyway, there is no cure for the Herpes virus. Could be as many as 90% of the population carrying the virus, inactively. So you probably had it already.

If you take proper care of your outbreak, hygienically and by getting enough rest and eating well, there should be no risk for the baby, as the virus will probably go back to its inactive state after a few days.

This doesn't exclude the need to consult with your doctor as outbreaks can be a sign of other conditions, such as low immunity triggered by other diseases (even the common cold or flu), lack of rest, stress, excessive exposure to sunlight or a combination of factors.

Eat well, get plenty of rest, relax and don't wait too long to call your doctor.

In the meanwhile avoid direct sunlight and stressful situations (actually, for the stressful situations, try avoiding them throughout the pregnancy.... or forever... as much as possible)

  3. Your unborn baby is NOT at risk.

Herpes does NOT cause any problem to a fetus, and since it is spread through skin-to-skin contact, your baby will not catch it (or be affected by it at all) in utereo.

You will want to tell your obstetrian about this, however, because you will want to take extra precautions to make sure your baby doesn't catch your herpes during birth.   Most women with active herpes choose to have a c-section to prevent this possibility.   Because your baby's immune system will be so very new, contracting a herpes infection during birth can be very dangerous for a baby.  With a c-section, there is absolutely no risk of that at all.

My fave herpes website has a great section on herpes and pregancy.  I suggest that you check it out - and be sure to discuss all this with your doctor.

Congratulations on your pregnancy - and good luck.

  4. It is only a danger if you contract it while you are pregnant.  It is also a danger to your baby if you deliver vaginally, at the time of an outbreak.

  5. It is not dangerous to have an outbreak at 3 months of pregnancy.  Lots of pregnant women have herpes.  It only becomes an issue at the time of delivery.  If you have an outbreak then or symptoms of one coming, your doctor may recommend a cesarean section.  I hope your doctor knows that you have herpes; if not, be sure to tell them.  They might want you to take medication during the last month in order to prevent an outbreak around the time of delivery.  Not every doctor does this, it will be up to your doctor.  It is safe to take herpes medication during pregnancy if you need it, but sounds like this outbreak is pretty mild

  6. I promise your baby will be ok. I just had a baby 7 months ago. I had herpes during my pregnancy and was not diagnosed. My baby is fine. She was born without any complications. And she does not have the virus. Just keep up your medical treatment. Everything will be ok. Also the only way you can give your baby herpes is if you are having an outbreak at the time of birth and if you have a natural birth. In the event that you do have an outbreak they will do a c-section. Your baby will be ok no matter what. Don't stress.

  7. check out this website...it is very informative.  has all the information you need about HIV and STDS.  http://www.sexhealthguru.com/index.php?s...

  8. Hi! I found out that I had H during my 7th month. I thought my new laundry detergent gave me an allergic reaction. But my Dr was really great and he gave me a prescription for Acyclovir and told me to take to suppress any chance of an outbreak and it worked. My daughter was completely healthy and she didnt contract H. Talk to your Dr about starting suppressive therapy. Hope this helps!
