Celta Vigo boss, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Paco-c29025 Herrera, has requested his players to stop making costly mistakes at both ends of the penalty area.
The Galicians succumbed to their second successive loss on Monday in the Primera Division. Their coach believes his side will only recover and progress the minute they stop making silly mistakes.
Reflecting back on the 1-0 defeat to Real Betis, Herrera believes his team’s lack of concentration is the main factor that causes them to make so many mistakes.
The tactician stated that his players' pursuit of goals is what is making them forget about their defensive duties at the back and that is why they always get distracted and punished in defence.
The Spanish tactician revealed that he discussed this issue with his players so many times before but still they have not managed to overcome this problem.
“What can happen is that the desire of wanting to score sees you get distracted. I had already told my players that to win you must defend well, and we have not accomplished that.”
The 59-year-old is of the opinion that his team did not deserve to lose the match. He believes his players showed enough efforts to at least share the points with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Pepe-c29670 Mel’s men.
“[Monday’s] match should have been a 0-0. We cannot have those mistakes because our efforts deserved at least a draw.”
Finally, Herrera is urging his players to master the two ends of the pitch if they want to get results and climb up the Primera Division ladder. He believes that is the only way they will avoid making mistakes and the punishments that usually come with them.
Looking back on the match, the tactician pointed out that Betis’ goal against them could have been avoided since it was a simple move.
“We must master the two penalty areas because if not we will be punished. Betis’ move should not have ended in a goal, it was a simple move. We failed and have paid.”
Despite their defeat, Celta are still out of the relegation zone. At the moment, they are sitting on the 15th spot with 15 points.
