  1. Are you seeing a Chiropractor for your herniated disks?  If not, may I suggest that you do that he/she would help.  I have 3 bulging disks in the lower extremities of my back as well as sciatica.  I have to see one for the rest of my life that I was told that surgery would only make it worse.  I wanted so bad to have surgery on my back to get it fixed.  It was getting to the point that I could hardly walk anymore and still to this day that I am now in a 4 wheeled scooter to take me to appointments and shopping.  It gets to where all circulation gets cut off in my left leg.  So I sympathize with you.  When you decide to go to the chiropractor, bring your x-rays with you.  Good luck.

  2. After I herniated a disk in my back, the doctor put me on some strong anti-inflammatory drugs.  That helped, but the best thing I've found has been acupuncture.  I was never one to believe in it.  I thought it was magical thinking, or placebo effect at the best, but it really worked.  Now, good luck finding a good acupuncturist.  Research, and ask around.  Not all doctors are created equally, and acupuncture is more of an art then a science.

  3. I had a friend with this same problem. She was just like you and didn't want surgery. She wanted to try everything else possible before thinking of surgery. The only thing that worked for her was physical therapy. And even that, took a while for her back to be just "ok". It did eventually work though. So you may want to ask about that?? good luck. I know it's very painful from what she's told me and the way she would even walk/sit. Wish you the best.

  4. My heart goes out to you as I have the same problem.

It's been 10 yrs since my disk ruptured, and I still have episodes from time to time.

I didn't require surgery,  however, I had a series of shots [steroid blocks] in the spine area which helped for a long time.  I haven't had any since.

I just take it easy....very easy!

Don't over-exert yourself, and when your body says "take a break" by all means do!

There's also spinal strectching that pulls the vertabrae open and allows the disks to slide back into their proper position.  I know a guy who swears by this method,  of course I've never tried it,  although I've thought about it.

Take care of yourself and I wish you the best.
