Herschelle Gibbs on his way to the Commentary Box
After having an astounding career with the bat, the South African opening batsman Herschelle Gibbs is considering to try his luck in the commentary box. According to recent reports, the South African is considering to use the talent
of his voice in the upcoming 2011 Cricket World Cup.
The South African’s agent Donne Commins has confirmed that Gibbs is in talks with major sports broadcasters for the said purpose. He stated, "(Gibbs) has received several offers and we are busy weighing them up against his desire
to play for the (provincial side) http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Cape-Cobras-c776 in the Pro20 series."
Just a few days back, Cricket South Africa terminated Gibbs’ national contract and now because of this termination the South African opener has nearly lost all his chances of representing his country on the field.
Gibbs and the CSA settled the termination mutually and there was no bad blood amongst the two parties. The termination of his contract is said to have come after he launched his autobiography “To the point” in which Gibbs gave
many controversial details about the South African players and their lifestyle.
The right-handed batsman was critical towards the former head coach of the national squad http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mickey-Arthur-c1969, calling him a puppet and questioning his coaching abilities.
The South African skipper Graeme Smith has shown his utter disappointment at Gibbs’ startling revelations about the team. Gibbs had snubbed fellow teammates Graeme Smith, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/AB-de-Villiers-c887, Jacques Kallis and Mark Boucher in his autobiography.
Gibbs had criticised these senior players of lobbying in the team and dictating their own terms on the rest of the squad. However, none of the players has so far come out with a statement against Gibbs.
The CSA was also not hasty in reacting to the Gibbs’ revelations. The association consulted their legal advisors to see if http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Gibbs-c60021 had violated his contract with CSA by making such disturbing claims. It is widely believed that the
CSA was not happy with Gibbs because of his book and decided to terminate his national contract with immediate effect.
Herschelle’s book has been a major success in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 where the controversial autobiography sold about 15,000 copies within just five days. So far, there has not been any public backlash towards Gibbs’ disclosures.
Initially the contract termination created a bit of a controversy when the CSA prematurely announced that the termination of the contract was a mutual decision, which was later challenged by Gibbs’ Lawyer. Nevertheless, things
did not turn ugly and after a meeting between the members of CSA and Gibb’s lawyer, the matter was resolved peacefully. The contents of the termination agreement have not been revealed to the public so far. However, the lawyer rubbished the rumours, which
suggested that Gibbs’ contract was terminated because of his controversial autobiography.
Gibbs’ playing days might be over, but the flamboyant batsman is about to turn over a new leaf in his life as he steps into the field of commentary. Moreover, now, because of his book more people will want to have him sitting behind
the mic and leak some more crispy details about the South African team.
