Herschelle Gibbs reveals lurid match-fixing, personal encounter details in autobiography
Herschelle Gibbs’ cricket career seemed to have come to a halt when his continued failures with the bat have kept him out of the side. However, after Gibbs’ autobiography, ‘To The Point’ gets released,
it does seem like it could get very difficult for him to make a comeback anyway. In his autobiography, Gibbs has accused the current cricket squad of his native South Africa of being riddled by divisions. He also brought up lurid details about the squad from
the 2000 match-fixing scandal.
Gibbs has also spoken about his own sexual encounters and drugs and said that the South African team has failed to shrug off the clouds of match-fixing in totality since Croje-gate in 2000. Hansie Cronje
was the captain of the South African side who had admitted to having accepted money in exchange of throwing away matches. Cronje had also named Gibbs, Henry http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Williams-c98034 and Peter Strydom in the deposition.
Gibbs has also said in his book that the current team has cliques within it, dominated by captain Graeme Smith and has Jacques Kallis, Mark Boucher and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/AB-de-Villiers-c887 as a part of it. This, according to Gibbs,
has divided the unity of the team.
However, the South African manager, Dr Mohammed Moosajee, on tour against Pakistan said that it was sad to hear the comments from Gibbs. He added, “Herschelle has been an outstanding cricketer for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757,
and he should rather be remembered for what he has achieved on the field.”
He also said that given http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Gibbs-c60021 wasn’t a part of the side for the last couple of years, he wouldn’t have too much idea of the team unity. He said, “It should be obvious to anybody who has watched the team playing
against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 in the UAE how good the team spirit is. You don’t get good results without a good vibe on and off the field.”
Speaking of the personal details described in the book, Moosajee said, “That happened 12 years ago, and does not concern or involve the current team. We have our own disciplinary code of conduct and we are
confident the players and management abide by it.”
