Michael Hershkowitz has urged his national side to win the final group stage match against Greece and has backed Andrei Arshavin to play a massive part on Saturday
Chairman of the Association of domestic football coaches, Michael Hershkowitz, has expressed his disappointment after the Russian national team failed to pick up all three points in the second group stage game against the co-hosts,
Poland, at Stadion Narodowy on Tuesday.
Though Russia played the mouth-watering encounter on the back of an amazing 4-1 victory over Czech Republic in the opening group stage game of the European encounter, they failed to find consistency in their performances.
The Euro 2008 semi-finalists failed to break the White Eagles defence more than once, and Hershkowitz believes that the missed opportunities were the main cause behind Russia’s stalemate.
“After the game, I was left with a feeling of annoyance. I must say that Russia played pathetically: as they were unable to display their own game. It's a shame, because I know our team is much better than that. Russia would have
won the match had they taken all their chances.” The former Zenit St. Petersburg player was quoted as saying.
Hershkowitz went on to comment on http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Job-c18684 for his country.
Though, Arshavin, who returned to Zenit from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429 in January after failing to get more first team action at the Emirates stadium, is yet to find the back of the net himself, the prolific winger-c*m-striker has provided three
assists from two group stage appearances.
d**k Advocaat’s men have scored a total of five goals in the ongoing continental tournament so far, out of which three goals have been assisted by the Russian Cup winner.
“He played with full dedication and courage, but he is a captain and he needed to guide his side to score the winner against the White Eagles. Russia managed to play better football in the second-half after showing good control. However,
it could have been better.” Hershkowitz concluded.
The Russian national admitted that the upcoming final group stage match against the Greeks holds immense importance.
