Herve Poncharal commends Andrea Dovizioso’s 2012 MotoGP run – MotoGP news
Andrea Dovizioso, the Italian Tech 3 rider, had a splendid run in the 2012 MotoGP season and got a well deserved appreciation from Herve Poncharal, the Monster Yamaha Tech 3 team.
Having made a switch from Honda to Yamaha for 2012 season, Dovizioso could not post any victories but he was the only rider to have finished all 18 rounds of the 2012 MotoGP Championship. Dovizioso finished the season with 218 championship points and 4th
position on riders’ standings. Although, 2012 run was not the career best for Dovizioso, but it certainly was the best for Yamaha Tech 3 team by any rider.
“Andrea was fantastic for us. A podium has always been difficult for a satellite team but he scored is first for us after only five races. He certainly gave us a lot of exposure and he proved that if you work hard with your team you can get on the podium,”
Poncharal told Motorcyclenews.com, while speaking highly of Dovizioso’s splendid 2012 performance and the contribution he made to the Tech 3 team.
Cal Crutchlow, Dovizioso’s British teammate, also had a very good season. He finished 7th on riders’ standings, with 2 podiums and 151 championship points. With Dovizioso finishing the season 4th and Crutchlow finishing 7th, Tech 3 were way ahead of their
Ducati rivals.
In 2013, Dovizioso will be riding for the Ducati factory team. Dovizioso’s decision to quit Yamaha Tech 3 came after he was overlooked for a ride alongside the reigning MotoGP champion, Jorge Lorenzo in the official Yamaha team, Yamaha Factory Racing.
Commenting on Dovizioso’s retirement from Tech 3, Poncharal said, “When he decided to leave us as well he said it was only because the offer he got from Ducati was almost impossible to turn down. I am sad but I understand and I’m really happy that we have
helped him get another factory ride.”
Following his retirement from Yamaha Tech 3, Dovizioso will be riding for the Ducati factory team. It remains to be seen if the Italian can give a similar performance riding for Ducati or not.
