He’s made his decision, Cliff Lee picks the Phillies
It has been a long run in the last few weeks and the decision is finally here. Cliff Lee has chosen the Philadelphia Phillies as his home team. The club that was his sanctuary for two months, last year, won a surprise bid to attain
the services of the top man in the market. Now, after being out of the free agency, Lee moves towards a new challenge in his life. The 32 year old, top pitcher is going to be one of the best players in the side and will give the Phillies an added advantage
against the regional teams in the National League East.
In Major League Baseball, everyone knows Cliff Lee. The ‘ace’, who is considered one of the top players in the game, was the talk of the off season this year. Teams like the New York Yankees and the Texas Rangers were seething
into the market for the ball star’s contract. However, it all came down to Cliff making a crucial decision in the last few days. The Yanks had punched in a 7-deal offer, worth more than $150 million.
The Rangers responded with a set of contracts that suited many horizons. However, it was later confirmed that they were unable to raise their stakes to a 7-year contract offer. Eventually things fell out and Lee named his new team.
The top ball thrower in Major League Baseball joins the Phillies on a 5-year deal worth $120 million. The contract could extend to $135 million, if a sixth year option is picked up. Shane Victorino was willing to comment on the new development. The Phillies
centre fielder described the events as they unfolded before him.
"We're like, 'Whoa,'" Shane Victorino said. "I had heard about this mystery team. I was like, 'There's no way it's us.' Then I heard the Phillies were back in it. I texted Cliff last week and he never said anything. I texted him
again today when everything started coming out. I'm like, 'Come on.' He finally texted me back, 'I'm back,' and I was like, 'Oh my goodness.' I thought there was no way we're bringing him back.
"You hear about a deal like this and you're kind of shocked. But this shows how much Cliff loved Philly. He turned down money to come back. That says a lot about him."
Lee would be happy, knowing this decision was his. The player never got the chance to choose a side. Many hope the pitcher finds his new home satisfying.
