It was reported that his relationship with Hesson had become increasingly strained after the latter told him that he will not lead the side following the conclusion of the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 tour. After playing well below their usual standards for the best part of the year, the Kiwis collected an impressive victory over the Lankans to level the two-match Test series.
Hesson argued that having separate captains is the way to move forward, given the amount of cricket played today. He further added that the move was an appropriate one as it is followed by most nations now. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 and Sri Lanka followed suit.
He further offered his backing to McCullum, who has previously led the side in 8 ODIs and 12 T20 internationals. However, the wicket-keeper batsman has largely struggled for runs this season, where he has not made a Test century.
"Brendon certainly reads the one-day game well and is very adaptable and changes quickly," Hesson said. "The one-day game and the T20 game move very quickly. I think Brendon McCullum has attributes to really add value to our team in that area.
"Split captaincy is something that works and with the high volume of cricket around the world at the moment, for one person to take on all three forms of the game is an extremely difficult task. It's very difficult for anybody to be up to that.
"We play ten months of the year. In terms of planning from series to series it's extremely difficult, to look after your own game and worry about that of the team."
The Kiwis begin their tour of South Africa with a first T20, which starts from December 21.
