  1. One thing is don't get discouraged if you fall a lot, because you will, everyone does when they first try.

  2. Aloha Emilyyy First time hugh? You should first start out by renting a longboard about 8'0" or a little bigger. It's a lot easier to hold your balance on and you can catch a wave alot easier...especially if the waves are gonna be small there in England. Hope this helped. If you want to see if you can find someone from england and connect with them try going to

    www.surfersunited.com

there might be someone there you can go surf with and tell you a good spot to hit!

    Good luck

  3. If you can swim well enough in the ocean to not be a danger to yourself and anybody else around you, be my guest and try to surf. Go to any real surf shop (not a bathing suit store that sells some surfboards) and hook up with some folks who will rent a you a board and hook you up with some lessons. How much it will costs depends on how long you will be there. Since you are a tourist, just there for a week, I hope you have fun, but don't plan on really learning how to surf. I have been at it for over forty years, and some days I feel like I just started. Surfing is the greatest stoke there is, so I hope you at least get to try it, and bring at least hundred pounds with you. That should cover lessons and board rental for a couple days (going by equivalent US prices). Also, don't think the the surf in UK isn't world class. There are only a handful of real 'big wave' breaks in the world. I have seen photos of surf in UK and Ireland that easily rivals most of the US.

You can tell a real surf shop if it has more racks of surfboards for sale than it has bathing suits and sunglasses. The real surfers there will always help. Be sure to learn surf etiquette first.
