Since you're after the scenic experience, it may be worth checking with your driver if they're still running Routemasters along the section between Tower Hill and Trafalgar Square. If they are, just hop off when you get to the Tower and wait for one of the wonderful old beasts to whisk you back to the days of standing on the running-board.

The reason I say you'll need to check is that I haven't done it since the low-emissions zone was introduced and the old Routemasters may have been scuppered by that. It's still marked as operational so fingers crossed. =)
