  1. I have some suggestions....

    1. Be sure that you can count in 8s or in 16s (beats, not measures).

    2. Make sure that you know how to do the side split and the forward split....even if you can't split to the fullest. Also....STRETCH especially in the lower limbs. They will take the brunt of the impact in dancing jumps....so if you don't stretch when you try to give 100 percent in a dance routine....you will end up with pulled muscles or sometimes even worse.....

    3. Be sure that you know this common jazz/ballet enchainement....

    Tombe....pas de bourree....glissade....grand jete

    4. Also know these jazz dance steps/tap dance steps

    Points....tendus....jazz box....jazz square....military turns (180 pivots, 360 pivots)....Suzy Qs......Boogie back.....tick-tocks......the "sugar" (from charleston).....fan kick.....kip kick.......basic walkovers (forward walkover, back walkover).....pas de chat.......sailor step.....jazz jump....stag leap...vegas walk

  2. It might be to late to take in on some classes to prep for a team, but you should always try. The first time I tryed out for my high school drill team I didn't make it because I had no dance experiance at all. Then, this year, I tryed again. But before I did I took a dance class. It helped me so much. I made the team!

You should try out for sure, and even if you don't make it, don't get your hopes down. Have faith, take a dance class, and try again next year. If you do have time before the try outs, do take a dance class! Good luck and never give up!

  3. Hey, I think you should go for it. I don't have experience as a dancer too. I never went to a dance class in my life. Though, I tried with all I had. My dance team is contemporary, so we had to do all types of dances. Hip hop, lyrical, a novalty, jazz and a solo routine. I was doubting myself but I had a lot of energy even if I did HORRIBLE. I only did well in 2 out of 5 routines and I just made up a 32 count solo. :} I made it, and I thought i sucked like eggs. But if you put a lot of smilies and energy and show enough potiential, then you might have hope. You should go on the first day, and if you don't feel comfortable with the routine they teach you, then you could decide what you want to do.

But you have nothing to lose.

    Seriously. Just take your chances :}

    GOOD LUCK

  4. well go to the try outs to see what type of moves they do and if you think you can do it, then go for it

  5. Well, each dance team is different so I really don't know what your team could be doing...

Best thing to do is talk to a person who is already on the team or the coach. Other than that I'd suggest working on stretching, build muscular endurance and cardio respiratory endurance, and strength training especially in the abs. Work on your:

-pirouettes (single, double, and triple) -as many as possible as long as in good form

    -chaine turns

    -fouettes

    -pique turns

    -hitch kicks

    -regular leap

    -side leap

    -toe touch

    -tilt jump

    -leg hold

    -splits (right and left)

    -russian split

    -heel stretch

Taking a technique class could also help. They could prepare you a lot. Most of all, just have fun. Good luck!! Let us know how it goes(:
