  1. Simple. Your knees.  ANY speed of skating is generated because the skater is bending their knees.  It sounds like you're a beginner, but no worries.  If you want to keep your speed, bend your knees and wiggle.  From shifting your weight from the insides and outsides of your blades you will gain momentum and hopefully get more speed!  Also, watch out for your toes!  You may be slowing down because you are leaning all your weight to the front and that could slow you down; really think about posture when you skate.  It matters.

  2. i dont know

  3. yeah Joey, stop doing g*y things like Ice skating, because then your always going to take things backwards

  4. use your stronger leg keep it bent at the knee ,,balance  on that blade ,,, when you got that ,,,,push/slide your other blade to either (left then right)behind your balanced blade,,

hope that makes sence and helps

  5. C pushes! Backward crossovers work too, but if you haven't gotten that far, you should stick with the C pushes.

C pushing is basically taking one foot (lets start with right) and bringing it so that the toe of that foot is pointed at your left foot. Then bring your right foot out, pushing in a "c". When you finish with the push, your foot should be back to being parallel to your left. Do the same with your left foot.

When you say you can skate backwards, do you actually push with both feet? If you just glide backward, then yes, eventually you will slow down, to a stop.

I hope the "C push" explanation makes sense, and good luck!

  6. yea f**t

  7. Yeah. I figure skate and that is the main building block. First, take your turn backwords. Then take your right foot and cross it over your left foot, and immeditatly put your left foot back to the possition that it was in before you did the cross over. Repeat this for a while. It may take some time for you to get the hang of it, but once you got it, you can't ever forget how to do it. Good Luck!

  8. ok that happened to me when i was learning ice skating. So it depends which way you're skating backwards. you could be doing fishies or backward crossovers so lets just say ur doing fishies so just keep doing them.  now for crossovers...it also depends whether you know how to do them or not...so if you don't, you do half fish in a circle, then to get the hang of crossing over, you lift ur foot and skate in a circle on one foot DONT CROSS OVER YET! 2 cross over, put ur foot over the one on the ice, and then put them both straight.  but trully i dont know if it helps so ...uh..hope it helps?

  9. yealearn hor to do whats called crossovers.  ur basically crossing ur feet and pumping ur arms

  10. If u keep moving one of ur feet like making a little zig zag u wont slow down.

  11. try Ur very best tUrn ur head a smudge and let the wind take ya

  12. dont slow down

  13. The key to ice skating, whether you're going forwards or backwards is bending your knees. However, when you skate, do not bend your torso down (with your gluteus maximus sticking out), this will slow you down. So when you skate, bend your knees, but keep your back nice and straight. Try not to look at your feet, because that will cause you to bend your back. It may feel stiff at first, but always keep your chin and head up.

Another important aspect is to push with the entire blade of the skate, not the toe-pick (the spiky point at the very front of the blade). When you go on your toe-pick it makes a loud scratching noise. This will also slow you down.

You need to keep pushing and bending your knees in order to continue to propel yourself backwards. In figure skating, to "truly" do backward stroking, you need to pump, or make a half circle with one of your foot, going backwards. Then you pick up that foot (advanced skaters point it very gracefully, but you don't have to do that yet) and switch to the other. Pump with that foot and pick it up. This may be hard at first for a beginner, so you may want to try it on the wall first and then do it on the ice. In order to avoid other skaters always look behind your shoulder.

To keep you balance, hold your arms in a "V" slightly in front of you. Don't make them parallel to your shoulders because they tend to go to the back of your body in that position, which may cause you to make a face plant on the ice.

More advance skaters (figure) do something called backward crossovers which is explained in the answer above. Once you get the hang of backward stroking, you might want to try forward and backward crossovers.

    Forward going counter clockwise.

    * Push with your left foot and extend (for real pretty and gracefulness). Hold, then cross it over the right foot. For more advanced skaters, they push under on an outside edge with their right foot (this is called the second push of a crossover, but you don't need to do this yet.). Repeat, you may want to pick up speed. You just reverse the feet for going clockwise.

    Backward going counterclockwise

*Pump backwards with your right foot. Then cross it over the left foot. More advanced skaters slide it in front of the left foot and then cross without picking it up over the left foot. They also do the second push of a crossover (inside edge). These techniques are for much more advanced skaters that want to become figure skaters.

For now I would suggest just doing backward stroking.

    I really hope this helps!

    Good luck!

    Always,
