when i use only the new memory modules (2*1gb) i can run them at 400mhz. but when i add in my old memory to it (.5gb+2gb) i can only run them at 333mhz. so i was wondering what would be better for my computers performance.having 2.5gbs and running them at 333mhz or having only 2gbs and running them at 400mhz. which opion is better?

  1. Depends on your OS. Windows XP will run better with the faster 2GB. Vista on the other hand will need all you can give it. The reason that your memory runs slower is because DDR will always default to the lowest speed memory module in the group. Through a 266mhz module in there and they all will run a 266mhz. Also, if you have an intel computer and your mother board supports dual channel DDR, then you will be robbing yourself of performance if you don't install your memory in pairs. Just some food for thought.

  2. 2gb with 400mhz if you have windows xp.

2.5 gb with 333mhz. for windows vista

but if your a gamer go with the 2gb 400mhz.

  3. You will probably not notice a difference either way but I would just go with the 2 GB since you will rarely need the extra.

  4. 2GB is better, you probably won't use anywhere near that much.

Windows can only support a maximum of 2GB of memory per application anyway.
