like, just for wine and champagene. My friend went there when she was 13 and at restaurants was allowed wine with her dinner. So is this true, and if so, what are the best dinner wines?

Merci!!

  1. The legal drinking age is 16.

However, as a practical matter there is almost no checking of ID's. And in the case of children dining with parents no restrictions will be imposed by wait staff in most places.

  2. I don't think they have a drinking limit over there

  3. There is no drinking age in france... and I reccomend trying the house wine.

  4. The legal age is 16 but actually, i drank my first beer in a bar when i was 13, with all my friends who were also 13. I've always drunk alcool in bars since this time and never had any problem. So actually, there's a legal age, but as for many rules in France, nobody cares.

  5. I'm not from there but I'm from Europe and yes they do allow you to drink wine I don't know at what age but you should be allowed to drink.(if perents don't come in the way)

  6. 18

  7. First wine is not really considered alcohool, its part of the meal. If you go to a restaurant and order food and wine, I seriously doubt anyone will refuse it to you. Children are encouraged in France to tast wine and appreciate it at our very young age. I was 6 when my grandfather started letting me sip wine ( just a sip mind you) Going to a bar... well that may be different, it will depend on the bar.

Normally there is a legal age of 16, but it is not enforced. I have never seen it inforced in my 15 years there, and was never refused a beer, even less a wine! If by bad luck you are refused, next door you shouldnt be.

As for which wine to taste, trust your host, they know wines and are eager to talk about the qualities of such and such grape if you allow them to carry on.

  8. Well in France alcohol is divided into categories. A under 16 is legally not allowed to buy or dring any kind of alcohol.

Between 16 and 18, you can drink and buy alcohol belonging to the 2nd category ( don't have a lot of alcohol in it ) : wine, beer

Then above 18 have no limits.

I hope that your friend wasn't proposed wine by the restaurant because it is illigal. But if her parents offerd her then it should be ok but still illegal.

Have a good stay in France and remember : don't drink too much.
