  1. It's the Saffir-Sampson Scale.

  2. 1 is winds around 75 mph. the damage would be mainly on potted plants, some trees down, and the power would be out in areas.

category 2 is strong. New orleans had category two winds duing the category 3 hurricane katrina and had endless damage.

category 3 hurricanes are very strong and will rip houses off their foundation, many trees would be knoked over, flooding would be a huge problem, storm surge over 20 feet also possible. bertha has winds at an amazing 115, making it a very rare major hurricane for this time of the year. that isnt a good sign for the rest of the huricane season. good thing is if bertha hits a coastline it would be a cat 2 or even a cat 1

category 4 hurricanes are very rare and arent very common only happening a handfull of times in the past 300 years. damage can be very severe and forever destroy a city. winds over 120-125 mph. winds would destoy roofs, trees, and backyards. storm surge would change a coastline. the eye of the storm coud be over 20 miles wide!

category 5 hurricanes are vey very  rare, but can be the size of the gulf of mexico, like katrina. the eye would be scary and huge. winds would be that of inside a tornado, but last for hours instead of minutes. almost everything would be destroyed leaving only the best built structures and a steel frrame of some of the larger buildings
