1. Why can a nun be covered from head to toe and she's respected for devoting herself to god,

and when a muslim woman does that she is "oppressed"?

2. Why can a jew grow a beard and he's just practising his faith,

and when a muslim does that, he's an extremist?

3. Why when a woman stays at home to look after the house and the kids she's a heroine,

and when a muslim does so she "needs to be lebirated"?

4. Why is it that when a child dedicates himself to a subject,he has potential,

and when a child dedicates himself to islam,he is "hopeless"?

5. When a christian or a jew kills someone, religion is not mentioned,

but when a muslim is charged with a crime,it is Islam that goes to trial?

But then again, why is it after all that,Islam is still the fastest growing religion in the world?!!

Is Islam really a religion of violence and terrorism,or you just get all information about islam from media and you dont get the right picture?

Read Hadith!! Better yet the Quran and

Think about it!!

i wont hold my breath

  1. I'm assuming that you're asking this of AMERICAN Christians.  Because the simple fact is: Everything you say is limited to this country.  So I'll take a stab at answering this for you.

Let me first say that you are absolutely right - it most certainly IS a double-standard.  "Choice" or not, it's "live and let live," and if the Muslim women can live with it, then there should be no problem.  Christianity in particular is all about taking care of your own "sins" before worrying about someone else's, but no one seems to want to do that.

(Incidentally: The same people who say that Islamic women should have the "choice" to wear head coverings or not are also the same people who say that women in this country should NOT have a choice as to whether to get an aboriton or not.  They want to "force" choice on Islam, while at the same time DENY choice for their own people.  Talk about a double-standard.)

Second, as I read your added details, let me also say that I am one of those Christians (for I HAVE read the Quran) who does NOT attack Islam; I don't profess it, and I believe that it is legalism, and a (futile, in my opinion) attempt at trying to make yourself "good enough for God" (which over 1300 years of Judaism before Jesus proved that a person can never be "good enough" for God - no matter whether he prays five times a day or whatever).  As a matter of fact: Islam and Judaism are virtually IDENTICAL, as far as religions go, which probably explains why Muslims and Jews just can't get along with each other; likes repel, you know.

But neither do I condemn Islam - or anyone who practices it; if you want to (again, in my opinion) WASTE your life (just like the Jews did - and still do) trying to live up to what some "religious" book says is the way to God, then I say "Have at it."  Who am I to attack it?

But as for why SOME Christians attack it, let me answer your question with another one: Why did some MUSLIMS attack the United States on 9/11/2201?

Your answer to that question will no doubt be that those who attacked the WTC on 9/11 did not represent Islam, but were extreme, radical Muslims who gave Islam a bad name.  Well, that is MY answer to YOUR question, too: Those who attack Islam are extreme, radical Christians who give Christianity a bad name.  They don't even represent a majority of Christians, but because they are the most vocal, it SEEMS like they do.

Again: Does Osama Bin Laden act according to how most Muslims would act?  Of course he doesn't; he does not represent true Islam any more than Pat Robertson - the one who called for the assassination of Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez - represents true Christianity.

Let me ask you one more thing: You say that it's OK for non-Muslims to do things that it's NOT OK for Muslims to do.  But don't you say the same things about non-Muslims - that even though they do some of the same things that Muslims do, it's NOT OK for them while it IS OK for Muslims?  After all: The Jews do many of the same things as Muslims; they pretty much HAVE to, because their "religious laws" were given by the same God.  So why is there so much Muslim/Jew conflict, then?  Why is it that the same things that each do are wrong for the Jews, but right for the Muslims?

It's all in how you look at things.  In this country, we (as a country, which really is not even the majority of Americans, even though the rest of the world sees it that way) tend to look at it as "us" versus "them" (or "you," as the case may be); thus the things that we do are OK for "us," while at the same time being wrong for "you."  An example of this is the war itself; what we're basically saying is: "Killing other people is wrong, so we're going to come over there and kill you until you agree with that."

Truth is truth; what you SAY can never change the truth.  And the truth is: It's just as OK for the Muslims to do all of those things you mention as it is for anyone else.

  2. No idea. Why would you try to blame it on me? I'm tolerant except when you come to my door and try to convert me!

  3. Well, the bottom line as far as I see it is : Is it done from a free choice standing point, or is it forced upon them ? woman, child, etc..... Religion is mentioned MORE than you think when it comes to crime.. just read some of the post on here..... no one gets the right picture about anything these days...... go in peace..... God bless

  4. Excuse me, Chris? Catholics were the FIRST Christians. Christians are people who believe in Jesus Christ and accept him as their savior. Since when did Catholics not believe that..?

Anyways.. back to the real question. Since most of your questions address issues concerning Islam, I will just explain that.

My opinion on why Muslim women are looked upon as oppressed and nuns are not is that for nuns, it is by choice rather than force. Nuns choose to devote their lives to God and by doing so, they choose to dress accordingly. On the other hand, Muslim women are forced by the Taliban I believe to dress the way they do. (Please excuse me if I am incorrect about this)

As for terrorism, Islam has almost nothing to do with it. Yes, the terrorism is in the middle east where Islam is the main religion yet the Taliban, the leaders in this war on terrorism, are Muslim and they have taken advantage of their religion and have abused it. People only associate the problems in the Middle East with Islam because of the media and the fact that most of the terrorists in that area are Muslim. It isn't the religion at fault, its the people who believe that terrorizing is okay.

  5. The answers to all those uestions has nothing to do with religions really. IT is all about the fear of differnce and cultural collisions.

These sterotypes shouldn;t exist.  God allowed them to be created TO BE OVERCOME.

  6. Interesting post.  Although, for all the questions you asked regarding Muslim women:  They, themselves have said to us that they were oppressed and wanted help.  Many of them came to the USA seeking refuge and telling us horrific stories of their lives in their country.  We didn't just make the stuff up.  Stay at home mothers in the US are (usually) there by choice, as they usually have had to sacrifice one income in order to have the option to be there.

  7. 1. A nun chooses to enter religious life and her habit is an outward sign. Many muslim women are forced to wear full body coverings by their religion for the sole reason that they are female. This is seen by most of the world as discrimination.

    2. I never heard that a muslim with a beard was an extremist...that's news to me.

    3. I never heard that one either. I think it's fine for all women to stay home with their children, even preferable.

    4. You're losing me here...again I don't see this.

    5. Haven't seen that either. I think you are grasping at straws. The only time Islam goes to trial is when some one is killed by a muslim and the claim they did it for Islam. They are usually the ones that bring religion into it.

I own a Quran and have found that it does preach both peace and violence. I think since each individual is allowed to interpret the Quran as they see fit, it is easy for anyone to make of it what they want. The extreme muslims have found violence and a call to war in the Quran, others have not. You can make of it what you wish.

  8. 1.When a nun is covered, it's her own choice.Yes it's a choice for a muslim woman to cover herself, but in a lot of parts of the world she could be *killed* for uncovering herself. That's called oppression.

    2.That's called prejudice.

3.Once again--you are being very general.A lot of houswifes don't have it easy.Ever see John and Kate plus 8? And in many mostly Muslim areas of the world the women have no choice but to stay at home.

4.That makes no sense. If anybody thinks that, then that is unfair.

5.That's just the times.Everybody, especially the media, likes to think that a muslim does things just because of their religion, which is not true. It's very unfair and this has to stop!

I think you are right.A lot of people don't understand that the religion of Islam is peaceful and not violent at all. They see the news, and hear stories, and it's all they know. All the muslims that I know are great people who wouldn't hurt a fly, they are great friends!

    ~A knowledgable Christian~

p.s. I hope nobody answers these questions rudely. They are just brainwashed by the media and their own religion, don't consider their answers.

  9. 1.Nuns are never forced,they may leave

    2.Beards are inconsequential

    3.The non-Muslim woman has choices

4.Dedicated to which faction of Islam?

5.Not true...Both Jews and Christians are highly scrutinized,in the slightest of error..

Also, are we speaking of Muslim women in secular, protected and free countries or Muslim dominated states?

  10. 1. Nothing in the Bible talks about Nuns, so I don't see how that is Christian.

    2. The Jewish faith is not the Christian faith, because Jesus fulfilled the law that talks about a Jew not shaving his face.

    3. Titus 2:4,5 "That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children, To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed."

It doesn't say here that it is a sin for a woman to be outside of the home. It says that children, and husbands need a keeper at home, so it is the woman's job to fulfill that role.

    4. That is not the opinion of everyone in the Christian faith, and again, it is not found in the Bible.

    5. The only reason why people blame Islam, is because people use your religion as an excuse for killing people, even though the Qu'ran clearly states that killing people is a sin against humanity.

BTW: Chris is exactly right. Christians were first called Christians in Antioch, not Rome, and many Catholic traditions and beliefs are not found in the Bible.

(Act 11:26)  And when he had found him, he brought him unto Antioch. And it came to pass, that a whole year they assembled themselves with the church, and taught much people. And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch.

  11. These are easy...

    1. You are comparing a Christian woman who spends her life in a convent to an average , every day Muslim woman on the street.  The Christian woman has a choice to do what she does; the Muslim woman does NOT.

    2. This is a silly question and you know it.

    3.  Again, muslim women don't have a choice; that is the difference.

    4. This is another silly question.  And I am sure Muslims would say the same about Christian children (a child being hopeless).

    5. You have got to be kidding me!  This is so untrue!

Then you continue to go on about Islam being the fastest growing religion (something else that isn't even true).

And how many Christians have gone into other countries in the name of God killing innocent people?  If you have to go all the way back to the Crusades as an example, you have lost the argument.

  12. 1.It is nun's choice ..because she was called to be a nun.And now many no longer do that except at certain times..if a Muslim woman wants to dress that way she certainly can.

2.I have never heard this one. I don't have a problem if any man wants a beard.Nor do I automatically think bad of him.

3.It is the woman's choice in any country ..as it is HER

choice. If they have choice why ask??

4.If a child wants to be Islam that is between parent and child.

5.Maybe because many (not all) say In The name of Allah.People are exploring new faiths and there is a lot of media about Islam.

    6. From the sound of your question you have the same media problem we do.I suggest that you search Jews For Jesus they can explain things on both sides . I found it helpful to try to understand. Just wondering have you ever read a Bible?.

**add-so you ask people to give your way a chance and read your Holy Book, but you don't want to do the same and read someone else's. That says a lot about the situation.

    I will pray for you.

  13. Looks like you need to address your question to catholics, not Christians.  Catholicism is not true Christianity.

The truth is that Jesus is God, and He loves you  :)

The truth is that the only way to be saved and to get into heaven and avoid being sent to eternal h**l is by believing in faith alone that Jesus, who is God, died for our sins on the cross and rose from the dead (1 Corinthians 15:1-4). Believe this and you are saved!

Please pray now: "Jesus, please forgive me of my sins. I believe that You died on the cross for my sins and You rose from the dead. Thank You for eternal life!" You will be in heaven with Him forever when you die. :)

  14. 1) It is because it is their choice to wear the habit of a nun, but muslims are forced to.

    2) Not all people believe this to be true. If I see a muslim with a beard, nothing enters my mind about him  being an extremist (unless I see him with a bomb)

    3) because once again, it is the woman's choice to stay home and take care of the house and children, but a muslim is forced to. She doesn't have the choice.

    4) This one is not all true, you are generalizing on how people think.

    5) That is a tough one, I have no answer to it.

Why should I read some religious book that holds no interest to me, I am an atheist. I know you asked for christians only, but just couldn't help myself.

  15. 9-11, and the nut job that was elected president in Iran for starters(who vows to destroy Israel).  Muslim terrorists all over the world.  Airplane hijackings. On and on.

  16. 1. Her service

    2. Free will. Worship style. Covenant issue

    3. Choices with free will. Rules and regulations of a religion

    4. All children belong to God no matter what their parents' religion is

    5. Not true. Silly generalization. The fastest growing does not make it the best. Would you like to have a fastest growing disease?

It is as violent as the person practicing it . I personally do not believe Muhammad is the prohet of God

  17. 1 is a great point. I guess the prejudice can be attributed to the culture difference.

#2 is also a valid point. I imagine it took most Americans a little bit to get used to the all black outfit and beard/locks look as well. Some longer than others.

#3 Again it's a misunderstanding of culture I guess but American women do seem to enjoy a greater sense of independence just from my point of view (although my point of view does not include much first hand knowledge of Muslim culture). Media influences much of what Americans think but I'm sure people would think differently if they lived in a predominantly Muslim country. I think it's a good thing that Americans are concerned about womens rights as all people should be treated with equality.

#4 seems a bit of a stretch to believe that most people think this way.

I am not a religious man myself but I believe all religions have something good to teach and they all seem to enrich peoples lives. I realize that there are extremists in all religions (save Buddhists) so again I think that this is a cultural thing that will pass in time.

#5 is two questions. :) I believe that Muslims have probably been misunderstood for the most part. There seems to be quite a bit of anger in this posting. I wouldn't let the media affect your outlook on people of other faiths and just people in general as I'm sure not all people feel this way. If you take everything that you read seriously, you'll drive yourself crazy. I think Islam has always been around and Christianity has always been at odds with it. I think that just the way it will always be until people wise up.

Don't focus on the negative, there are lots of good non-Muslims out there.

  18. 1.  The nun will not be stoned to death for not being covered.

    2.  The bearded muslim is only an extremist when he straps a bomb

to himself to die and kill others for islam.

    3.  That's the 21st century way for all women (according to some) not

         just muslim women.

    4.  This is a falsehood as any non believer (atheist) would say it about

         any child concerning ANY religion.

    5.   Again any atheist would say differently.

Finally, why is it after all that,Islam is still the fastest growing religion in the world?

Your Koran tells you to cut off my head if I don't convert, so how much growth is out of fear??

  19. Very well-thought-out and thought-provoking question.  Islam certainly isn't getting treated fairly these troubled days.

I don't think that either Islam or Christianity are evenly remotely correct about the way of things, with the exception of the messages of love and forgiveness that are attributed to Jesus, and probably Mohammed as well.

Therefore, they each deserve an equal measure of dismissal and criticism, not just Islam.  The actions of an angry few shouldn't reflect on all of the followers of Islam.
