  1. Its a "strike strip"


  2. I don't think there is a technical name for it. The surface contains trace amounts of chemicals that react with the trace amounts of chemicals found in the match head. Friction causes them to heat up and ignite.

    Strike pad sounds like it could become a fairly common term.
