  1. I don't understand what you mean, what should you take notes on. Here are some things you may consider writing about in a book report:

    --The simplicity of the language. Do you know that, if you were teaching ESL, you could probably include long passages of this book in a final exam?

    --Textbook rising action and conflict: The old man v. the sea, the weather, his limitations, his immortality, the fish.

    --Just for fun: the relationship between the old man and the boy. How did each benefit from it? Who benefits more (easy call)? Anything in your life similar?--That would be good to include in your report.

    --Survival.

    --Cuba. What does this book tell you about the not too distant past in Cuba (less than an hour's drive time from Havana)?

    --No women. An entire novel--novella, really--and no women in it. What could you write about that, or contrast it with? Where would women fit in this story? Would it change it? Weaken it?
