  1. aw congrats to bello which is by the way, the cutest name!!!

i would suggest not to hold them for a week or so. bello will probably be really protective, and the babies are fragile and can't really see. they should stay close to their mothers for comfort and warmth. once they start to move around on their own and seem "awake" you can hold them!

  2. No, you may want to wait a couple of days or weeks. When their eyes open you should be able to hold them because they are able to see around and not be scared because they can't see. Also. Your guinea pig has a pretty name.

  3. Keep an eye on the mother and father it could eat a baby if they are stillborn or premature and the parents have had no experience.

  4. no, i would give them a few days-4- for them to settle in. because there babys, they r weaker, and u could hurt them accidentily.

  5. As you've seen, guinea pigs are up and running almost as soon as they are born.  You can handle them.  Some people even separate them from the mom after 12 hours, as they are perfectly able to eat solid food by then.  Handling them at a young age is good for them, as they will relate better to people and be less skittish.

  6. you should probably wait a few days

  7. you shouldnt hold them for a few weeks because they will get the secnt of human and then the mom wont want to take care for them

  8. my uncles guinea pigs had babys and they waitded afew days i would say wait 5 days first good luck i miss my guinea pigs

  9. Guinea pig babies come out very developed.  You can hold them after they have been washed and fed by the mother for the first time.  The mother will be fine about.

  10. It is safe to handle guinea pig babies immediately after their birth.  Sows do not eat their young because they have been picked up.  I routinely remove newborns from the sow for a few minutes to check the s*x of each, examine for any physical abnormalities and to weigh each "piglet."  I make it a point to hold the babies a few times each day so they are used to being handled.  As long as you're gentle, there's no reason why you can't hold them right away.

Edit:  The First Dragon - cavy babies should be with their mother for at least 3 weeks, not 12 hours.  They need the nutrition they get from nursing even though they can and do eat pellets and hay almost immediately.

  11. Have they dried off from birth yet?  How is the momma?  Is she doting all over them?

A quick answer is you can hold them, but the question is if you really should.  Personally, why not give momma and babies some quiet time for the day and later this evening go in and watch them.  If you can't resist holding one, do it tonight.  Momma worked hard and needs some peace with the babies she just had.  okay?

I've raised several litters of quinea pigs.  One time, she had 9 babies.  They were so darling with so many running around squealing.  loved it.  So I know what you are feeling with wanting to hold one NOW.  LOL  But, for the sake of the family, please wait till this evening.
