Is this true has he really made an appearance there 10 times! I know each time he`s played Rafa he`s lost but thats only 3 times they`ve met. Who the h**l has put Federer out the other 7 ? Or is it nine times he`s played here ?

  1. He's been participating since 99.

    Here's how he's done:

    99: 1R

    00: 4R

    01: QF

    02: 1R

    03: 1R

    04: 3R

    05: SF

    06: F

    07: F

  2. He's not played at Roland Garros ten times. That's wrong. I don't know where you got that info

  3. He has lost to Kuerten ('04), Luis Horna ('03), Hicham Arazi ('02), Corretja ('00 and '01) and Rafter ('99).

  4. This is his tenth year playing in it. Federer did not really start his dominance over the game until about four years ago, and even then, it was obvious his strength was on grass and hard courts. That's why he was taken out of Roland Garros realtively early. Then he started working at it, and got to the semis and then the finals twice.

  5. Gustavo Kuerten was the last man other than Nadal to knock Federer out of the French Open. This was in 2004, when Federer was a favorite to win. Before this, Federer wasn't the dominant player that he is today (or last  year). Guga was the first man to deny Roger the calendar slam. Nadal was the second and third.

  6. Federer didn't really become a great player until 2003, when he won his first slam title at Wimbledon, and the French Open in particular has never been his forte.  2005 was the first time he made it past the quarterfinals there.  I don't remember all the players that beat him at Roland Garros besides Nadal, but most of them were clay court specialists, like in  2004 when Guga Kuerten, a 3-time French Open champion, beat him in the 4th round in straight sets.
