Thinking of going to Mexico...the question???? Where do I go? Acapulco? Cabo? Cancun? Tulum? Riviera Maya? Etc?

I would be interested in seeing the culture....arts, ruins, shopping, fishing, nice beaches, golf. Not into big fancy resorts with massages, etc. Not looking for a place with 8 zillion people, or a place where I might get mugged! ha ha

Thanks for all advice given!

  1. Acapulco but i like leon monterrey

  2. You can try Oaxaca and or Chiapas.

    http://www.travelchiapas.com/

Both are rich on Culture, Ruins, Natural Beauty, including beaches, jungle, mountains, rivers, waterfalls, etc.

In Oaxaca you can visit the capital city with the same name or Puerto Escondido or Huatulco.  In Chiapas you can set base in San Cristobal de las Casas and tour the region.

  3. My favorite place is Celaya, Guanajuato. I lived there for almost two years. It's nice and calm there and the people are acceping and more open to outsiders. There are a lot of little hole in the wall motels and hotels that you can stay in that are close to the middle of town. Infact, I'm going back in November, 2007. Good luck and have fun!

  4. i agree you should go to the cancun/riviera maya area if you are looking for ruins and gold.  see....cancun has 8 zillion people, but riviera maya doesn't, it has golf.  but it's full of fancy resorts, and cancun is full of crappy resorts...and fancy ones.

i suggest making the riviera maya your home base, and then you can span out and check the other places.

alcapulco stinks right now...bad drug problems, lots of nacos.

  5. Cancun, Tulum, Riviera Maya etc are very close one from the other so i'd suggest you go there, maybe Playa del Carmen Or Chetumal would be a good choice for ya since it's the same location and this cities aren't as crowded as the spots you've talked about.

have a nice trip hope you enjoy mexico girl, tell me if someone tries to mugg you and i'll yell stuff at them in spanish but from a safe place =)

    Hope it helps

  6. i agree with mad max, i have travel to ever state in mexico. Mad max is a good advise but he missed michoacan state.  If u go to either of this three states u are going to have a vacation u will remember for the rest of ur life.

  7. Best Museums -- Mexico City

Best Indian Culture -- San Cristobal de las Casas

    Best Surf -- Sayulita

Best Place to Snorkle -- Xelha

    Best Maya Ruins -- Palenque

Best Place to SCUBA -- Cozumel or Holbox (when the whale sharks are there)

Best Place to Shop for a Guitar -- Paracho

Best Place to Shop for Silver -- Taxco

Best Place for Mardi Gras -- Mazatlán

Best Place to Study Spanish -- Oaxaca

Best Place to Shop for Onyx -- Puebla

  8. Your best bet judging on what you have said you want to see, is the Mayan Riviera.  You will see ruins, and be able to shop, fish, see nice beaches, golf.

Keep in mind, any place in mexico you pick that is on the beach you are going to have company (say 8 zillion people or so...)

If you want more culture, then you should be off a beach say, Guadalajara or Oaxaca or Monterrey or Mexico city.

So, its your choice beach or culture.

p.s. in mexico, the only time you are going to find yourself mugged or in trouble is when you bring it on yourself.  i.e. flashing wads of cash, tons of jewelry, drive a fancy rental car, get really drunk and stumble around being loud and obnoxious, walk down dark alleyways at night......if you behave yourself and be aware of yourself and your surroundings, you will be safe.
